Hello,

we are in "decision finding process" to migrate or to update our PI system 7.30 dual stack to 7.5 java only.

First question is: is this possible directly or do we have to do an upgrade to 7.31 and then to 7.5?

Second question concerns migration tool: to estimate the effort of an migration a "migration tool" can be used. This can be accessed via nwa or via a java report. First alternative requires an installed 7.5 pi system, where the tool can be accessed via URL. For second alternative I only found a tool for 7.11 (http://blog.tadi.com/download/pi71migration.jar). I ran this against our 7.30 system and got a few errors:

[com.sun.xml.internal.ws.policy.EffectiveAlternativeSelector] selectAlternatives
WARNING: WSP0019: Suboptimal policy alternative selected on the client side with fitness "UNKNOWN".

[com.sun.xml.internal.ws.policy.EffectiveAlternativeSelector] selectAlternatives
WARNING: WSP0075: Policy assertion "{http://www.sap.com/NW05/soap/features/wsrm/}enableWSRM" was evaluated as "UNKNOWN".

Are these errors because running this program for 7.11 against 7.3?

Is there a java program for 7.5 migration?

Best regards,
Julia

Hello Julia,

You don't need intermediate upgrades on the way from PI 7.3 to PO 7.5 - direct upgrade path is available here. Please note, that since you aim to upgrade from PI dual-stack to PO Java-only, you will not be able to perform in-place upgrade, but can only go ahead with side-by-side upgrade option (installation of a new PO 7.5 in parallel to existing running PI 7.3 and migration of existing interfaces to a new environment).

Regarding interfaces migration efforts assessment - as to my knowledge, there is no 100% accurate calculation tool for this (especially when it comes to assessment of custom ABAP mapping programs and ccBPM scenarios, which both have to be re-developed when migrating to pure Java mappings and NW-BPM scenarios), but there is a standalone tool developed by William Li that you can use for high-level assessment - it is described in and available for download at Generate a Migration Report from PI Dual-Stack to AEX. From personal experience, its version for 7.11 used to work finely well for me when assessing PI 7.3 source systems, too.

Regards,

Vadim
