Error starting 'C:\...\tx.sap' rc=2

Hi there,

I am getting reports from some clients that they cannot access the SAP single sign on link from our intranet.

When they click on the link, instead of SAPgui opening, IE11 pops up with a yellow bar at the bottom of the page asking if the client wants to "open or save tx.sap".  (SEE SCREENSHOT 1)

If they click open, it seems that .sap files are not associated with SAP. So if that is changed so that it is associated, the following error will appear in SAP when the file is opened:

(SEE SCREENSHOT 2)

Error starting 'C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\NBLYOJEN\tx.sap' (rc=2)

This only seems to be an issue for some clients, and they can still access SAPgui by logging in manually.

Any help on how to amend this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Scott,

Try SAP note 1997025 http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1997025

It is point to the already implemented by you SAP note 604324 but has additional input about Group Policy and IE11.

regards,
Roman.

Hi Scott:

The fact that the users are able to work with the system when logged in directly through SAP gui and not while trying to logging through portal means that the issue may be limited to how their IE11 options are setup and whether .sap files are registered to open up with SAP GUI application i.e. sapstart.exe

Can you check file types .sap are registered to open with sapstart.exe for the users and also check this note

604324
- Internet Explorer: The Open/Save popup can't be unprompted

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Mandeep.

By changing the .sap file type to open with sapstart.exe instead of sapgui.exe I get the following screenshots.

Also, I don't seem to be able to access the link you provided. It asks me for credentials.

Hi Scott:

My bad. I should have written sapgui.exe. So it means that the file types on the impacted computer are rightfully registered to open with the correct application type which in this case is sapgui.exe.

Here are few things you need to check:

1. IE and SAP GUI versions that are impacted

2. Users where the setup is working fine.

It might be the case that the issues is with specific IE or SAP GUI version

Have you collected this information?  Do you see if there is any pattern. Based on this information we can narrow down the issue. Sometimes upgrading SAP GUI can resolve such issues.

To be able to use the previous link that I provided earlier you should have valid SAP Marketplace ID.

Thanks.
