Former Member

Hi,

Appreciate if any one can advise me on these promotion management issues .

Brief about the system architecture and landscape:

  • I am using promotion management form the detestation system.
  • This is fresh new servers of SAP BI 4.1 SP06.
  • We are using distributed system where with one server for application server another server as web server (tomcat) with webtier.
  • Dev and production system are in different network.
  • We do no have QA system.
  • Issue #1:Creating job in destination system --> Trying to connect source system (Development) with Hostname:6400, Administrator and password. Then I am getting below error

Resolution Steps taken so far and Questions:

    • We already opened port in firewall request. We are able to telent <hostanme of dev> 6400 successfully.
    • Tried to login source system using Hostname, cluster name and ip address.
    • Tried login CMC in prodcution with hostname and Ip address.
    • Do I need to apply SAP note 1628154? I see this note talking about Dev to QA with in the same network, Prod different network and LCA as centralized system. But our Dev and prod are in different network.

  • Issue #2: No "Save", "Promote","Schedule" buttons when importing lcmbiar file.
    • Resolution Steps taken so far and Questions:
      • Exported required objects from Dev system in the format of LCMBIAR file. Then created job by importing LCMBIAR file.
      • Now when I tried to promote job the Save, Promote and schedule buttons are not appearing.
      • As per SAP note #1941033. I have tried to login CMC in destination system with hostname and IP address rather than cluster name. Also tried to login destination with hostname and ip address during the promote the job.
      • We are able to see promote button in the source system (Dev).

Not able to attach sap notes. Here is the link: Dropbox - TEMP

Thanks

Venky

Hi All,

Issue had been resolved.

Thank you for all your suggestions.

Both issues has resolved by opening ports from Destination web server to source reporting/application server in both ways.

Thanks

Hi Venky ,

I think you should involve you network to check the network communication issue for Live to Live migration  .May be by tracing , they will be able to find the root cause of the issue .

For the second issue , try this -

1. Kindly redeploy BOE.war file using the attached KBA -

1608960 - How to deploy war files in Business Objects BI 4.x using the wdeploy command line utility

And,

1. Stop Server Intelligence Agent.

2. Backup 'packages temp directory' and 'packages ' directory from Business Objects installation directory.

3. Copy all the DFO files from “\\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\setup\packagestemp” location to “C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\packages” location.

4. Start Server Intelligence Agent.

If you still get the issue then repair BI 4.1 environment.

Kind Regards,

Rukaiya

Hi Rukaiya,

Thank you for your advise. I am able to telnet static request port "6408" of CMS from both ways. I also requested to network team to check trace logs.

For second issue I will implement and get back to you.

As per the Note I am trying to assign dedicated request port number for the Central Management Server. That will giving error when I login into CMC as shown in the issue #1.

Error:

Assign dedicated request port numbers to the following Business Objects services

l Central Management Server

Apart from that I setup everything and still not able to access dev server from prod in promotion management.

Thanks

Hi Venkata,

This is regarding second issue that you are facing-

In the second screenshot , it seems like you have not looged in to the detsination system.

That’s why you are getting 'Promote button'.

I have tested the same.

I hope this helps.

Rukaiya

Hi Venkata,

Are you able to telnet the following ports ?

Assign static request ports to Central management servers of both environments. Restart Central management servers .Make sure both are running fine.

From source -

  • Telnet  <destination_hostname>  <CMS_Port>
  • Telnet  <destination_hostname>  <CMS_Request_Port>

From destination -

  • Telnet  <source_hostname>  <CMS_Port>
  • Telnet  <source_hostname>  <CMS_Request_Port>

Let us know if that works .

Hi Rajshree/Rukaiya,

I configured ports from the below servers. And able to telnet the source hostaname and port from the destination system.

  • Input File Repository server
  • Output File Repository Server
  • Adaptive Job Server (listed under Lifecycle Management Services)
  • Adaptive Processing Server (listed under Lifecycle Management Services)

But when I am trying to assign static request for the Central Management Server getting port conflict and not allowing to login into CMC. Getting error as shown in my initial post as mentioned in the issue1.

I tried to give port 6408, 6441 etc.,

FYI for other servers gave port 6442 to 6445 and accepted.

Thanks

Hi Venky,

Are you login with NameServer port that is 6400 by default(check in CMS server properties) It should be login with that.

I beleive you are using request port for login into CMC.

Hi Rajshree,

Yes I am loging with 6400 only not with requested port no. For dev central manager server request port has been reverted back.

Now I implemented in production for all the servers except CMS server. Got same issue but not able to make it revert back

Thanks

Ok Some how reverted back CMC changed and kept other servers request port no.

Now another challenge, Note saying port should be open bidirectionally. By client n/w team not allowing to open port from dev to prd. In this case we can do Live to Live promotion. We may have to follow File (LCMBIAR) to Destination method. Or else do you do we have any other way around?

Thanks

if DEV and PROD server are not in the same domain or cannot talk to each other, only option is biar file. Cannot do live-live

Yes that is what I am thinking Jawahar. But when I am trying to do with LCMBIAR the promote, save buttons are not appearing as I mentioned in my initial note as issues2.

Thanks

Based on your issue#2 screenshot, you did not login to destination system. And also you replied below, you did login to destination system. When you login to destination system, do you see the system name in the screenshot?

After login to the destination system getting same screen again with destination with ------ and no buttons as shown in issue#2.

Thanks

Hi Venky,

For issue 1 , please apply KBA-http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1628154

That should resolve the second issue as well.

Hi Rajashree,

Thanks for your response. I referred about that Note only. Ok I will apply and see.

In that note point 3. Assign dedicated request port to the set of servers. Is this we need to apply in source (dev) system or destination (prod) system?

Thanks

Hi Venky,

Please refer the following KBA , it has explained clearly for which system which server ports you need to open - http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1819897

Hi Rajshree,

Thank you for quick response.

I did not see any LifeCycleManagement option. I am using promotion management only. Do I need to install Licecycle management to promote the jobs?

Thanks

Hi Venky,

Lifecycel management is Promotion management, if you are using 3rd server for promotion management (Dedicated for PM)other then source and destination then you have to worry about it.

If you have just source and destination server, please refer Source and destination servers from KBA.
