What if I migrate to HANA my ERP (NW 7.31 ERP 6.06) without upgrade

Lately I've been struggle with the possibility to migrate the ERP to HANA without the upgrade project due to several internal company constrains that don't allow me to plan during 2016 a upgrade project to EhP7. On our PoC for BW with NW 7.31 we didn't experience the need to apply notes and every functionality was tested and found no errors. Right now I’m having trouble to find arguments (beside the very import from SAP that recommends to upgrade). Taking in account that NW 7.31 ERP 6.06 is supported for HANA, my question is: What if I perform a PoC to HANA without upgrade the ERP and found that everything works without problems, conclusion, should I even consider to perform such PoC?

Hi Jake, That right we've the NW 7.31 ERP 6.06 SP6 and according to PAM we should be able to jump to HANA, nevertheless last week the guys from SAP AG, comment that's just a small upgrade since the migration to latest SP and NW 7.4 is the obligatory path to HANA, and if we add that very few people have follow this path. Conclusion, we've remove this option and return to the upgrade to EhP7 option again, hope that it could be posible to us 🙂 Regards, JP

João, if you are doing the PoC, this is your playground. Try, see the outcome and then you will decide with confidence if you go for an actual migration project for DEV, QAS, PRD, etc.

Thanks for the reply Dmitry, also take in account that the ERP 6.06 is supported by the current PAM (attached file), so my question or doubts is on this two possible options, is option 2 a high risk and would be nightmare because it will require many many notes to be applied?

Option1. Should I wait two years since we can't perform the upgrade on 2016

Option2. Only migrate the ERP 6.06 to HANA since it's supported

João, I know some customers that went to HANA using ERP6. There will be quite some notes to apply, anyway, but since it is BASIS responsibility (not, really, my thing) I am unable to tell you anything exact.

There is a good collection of notes to begin with SAP Notes for Migration

If your next best alternative is wait for two years, I would just go for it on sandbox and take it from there..

João,

There is an EHP6 version specific to HANA. Unless you have this specific version, you'll have to do an Ehp install, regardless. It is version 616.

1768031 - SAP EHP 6 for SAP ERP 6.0, version for SAP HANA

That being said, what is the business case to move to HANA? The business requirements should drive the target version.
