Issue while opening a GIF file using CV03N in WINDOWS 7

Hi All,

I got struck with the below issue. Could you guys please help on this?

When we try to open a GIF file attached to a document using CV03N transaction in WINDOWS 7 an error pop up is displayed like 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or , if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel'.

But when we try to open a GIF file with the same configuration in WINDOWS 8, we are able to view a pop up with which it is to be displayed.

Note: we are able to open other file types like (DOC,DOCX,PPT,PPTX,PDF,TXT,ZIP,JPEG,PNG,XLS,XLSX,CSV,MSG) in both  WINDOWS 7 and WINDOWS 8 with the same configuration.

Quick replies are highly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Gayatri

gayatri,

Replying to your initial post.

This is more WINDOWS related. It seems you do not have proper image handling software in your machine. Try to install one like Photo editor (freely available). Then right click on a GIF file go to properties and give the default Application this program (Photo editor any other which can open GIF files). Now there should not be any problems to open GIF fails from SAP.

Try to open a gif from your desktop, in which application does it open?

Right click on your gif file and check what application is set for opening it

you can change it to something different and try

Dear Gayatri,

The reason for this issue is that the local copy of the displayed file has no file extension. This could happen if the field "Suffix" in transaction DC30 is empty for the used workstation application. I would recommend you to fill a suitable value in this field and is you are working with extensions like docx, xlsx, etc. please set also the flag "You cannot rename....." here in DC30.

The reason for the difference between Windows 7 and 8 is that in version 7 just an error message is raised by windows because of the missing file extension. But in Windows 8 the operating system behaves more friendly and allows you to choose an application that could display the file. But this is due to the operating system.

Hi Christoph,

Thanks for your prompt response.

I have tried by adding suffix as 'GIF'  and checked the 'norename' check box. Even though it doesn't work and same error message is getting populated. But after the addition of these settings the local copy of the file displayed is saved with file extension 'GIF' which was not happening before.

Also tried with out checking the 'norename' check box same error is getting populated.

Note: After addition of these settings the file is not getting displayed even in WINDOWS 8.

Could you please help me further?

Thanks,

Gayatri

Hi Gayatri,

that's really strange because normally the control is handed over to the operating system and this system decides which application should be used to display the file on basis of its extension.

So could you please paste screenshots of your settings in DC30 for the used workstation application. Please made sure to upload screenshots of all submenus as well like "Define workstation application in network".  Here I would recommend you to maintain entries with parameter %AUTO% %NO-LEAVE%.

In additional suggestion would be to check the settings in transaction DC20 for your maintained frontend types. Please made sure that you have maintained a short static path like C:\temp\ is maintained here.

Best regards,

Christoph

As per my understanding to your reply, I tried by maintaining entry '%AUTO% % NO-LEAVE%  in work station application in network, even it doesn't worked.

Could you please help me further?

Hi,

Can you check and try to open the GIF file document from the temp file(C:\TEMP\) , As per this issue you may not have the file extension in your temp file.

I came across this issue recently and found the issue was with my PC try the same from other PC with Windows XP, or 8 (As mentioned by you if its working then you may not have admin authorization in your system for temp).

Please check and let us know the result.

Rgds,

Nayeem.
