Installing optional Android Enterprise App via Afaria

Hi there

We have several Employees using Android Devices. We decided to restrict App Installation with Samsung SAFE Application Whitelisting.

In the Afaria Group we have an Android Enterprise App Policy for Distributing a Company owned App to the Emmployees. The App is optional, so it has to be installed via Afaria and is not pushed directly to the Client.

When we install this app on the device, we always have a popup promting us to go into the Settings and enable App Installation from unknown sources, which is not really user friendly.

Is there a way, that it is not needed to allow unknown sources?

We know that we could generally allow unknown sources, but that would enable installing any apps on the devices via adb too, right?

What would you recommend?

Dear Tobias, You can push a configuration policy to the Android devices by restricting the Unknown sources installation on the device. Please take a look at the below screenshot:

This is correct, but can we still install our Enterprise app then?

Because now, when we install our enterprise app using Afaria, we need to enable unknown sources. Otherwise the app is not being installed.

This is not necessary if an app policy is set as 'required' as the app is then directly been pushed to the device using the MDM Protocol.

But we really need this app to be optional.

So we need to know if we can find a way that optional, self-developped enterprise apps can be installed using the Afaria App without enabling unkown sources.

Dear Tobias,

Once you make the app as "Optional" it prompts the user to install "unknown sources" cause you are not allowing Afaria to push the application directly to the client. Well, it would be considered as an enhancement request . To drop an idea please use Afaria Idea Place: https://ideas.sap.com/afariamakesiteasy
