SAP HANA as primary database

Hi,

Can someone tell me few scenarios when SAP HANA will act as primary DB.

I found this piece of info in a thread

"SAP HANA is supported as primary database starting with SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.4 which is the foundation of SAP Business Suite (SAP ECC Core 6.0). "

Looking for more details as Primary DB. Thanks

Hi Neeraj,

SAP HANA as primary database is for Business suite applications. All business suite applications like ECC, CRM, SCM etc run on top of HANA database. These applications with HANA runs in same way as RDBMS but with faster processings. But still HANA is not full fledge utilisation since our existing applications are heavy due to many indexing tables etc. Now the SAP has come up with simple, lighter and faster business applications like Simple finance, simple logistics etc which is nothing but S4 HANA.

Hi Neeraj,

When you are using SAP HANA as a primary database, most of things including main server architecture, infrstructure of the development remain the same. You will find lots of info about this on the SAP site itself.

Hi Neeraj,

When we SAP HANA as primary database its as good as running all the application softwares like SAP Core components (SAP ECC), or SAP CRM, or SAP PPM on SAP HANA.

That is SAP HANA acts as runtime database to capture all the transaction data(OLTP).

Earlier the underlying database software used with SAP application softwares were, orcale, sybase, maxdb etc.

So if you are running your entire suite of SAP application softwares on SAP HANA, its called as suite on HANA. Now the latest buzz is S4 HANA, where in S stands for simple. Currently SAP has released Simple finance and simple procurement is also get released. So like was all the functional processes would start with name "S" prefixed.

If you wan to know more about SAP HANA as primary db then look for SUITE on HANA(SOH) or S4HANA.

SAP HANA can be used only for Analytics, without disturbing the transaction system. Like any DWH or SAP BW system, where in you get the data from different source system then do your Modeling or star schema realization and give it for reporting purpose to different BI reporting tools.
