Analysis workbooks are slow to open

Former Member

Hi ,

Can you please help me with the below information.

We are using BOBJ Analysis version 1.4 . Users are creating workbooks connected to several to data sources (Bex) and these workbooks are saved and reused. But they are reporting issues saying workbooks are taking long time to open ,load and refresh. so when we checked the scn sap , we found out that style sheets are the reason for poor performance.

Can you please let me know why style sheets are copied in workbooks because we dont have any and is there any way we can avoid style sheets.

If I download the macro to remove style sheets does it have any other impact on workbooks.

Thanks,

Bharathi.

Hi Bharathi,

My understanding is that this is an Office Issue. What we found was that our users had to migrate workbooks so they would copy a sheet from another workbook to the new workbook which will result in the styles that exist in the original workbook being copied into your new workbook.

We have used the style remover on a few hundred workbooks with no impact that we have picked up yet.

Hope that helps you.

Hi Michael ,

For Testing Purpose :

I logged into analysis , connected to BW and executed Bex queries . So by default each workbook has 83 styles.

I tested it for multiple queries and it has 83 styles. Even if I add extra rows and columns it did not change. so by default each workbook created from Bex query has 83 rows.

But the workbooks created by users has multiple sheets , copied from somewhere else and it has link to other sheets. this workbook has around 24,000 styles. when I removed it using the macro it came back to 160 and performance is normal.

so Can you please help make me understand , how the styles are created in workbooks. Is it because of excel or analysis office. I am thinking its not analysis , its the issue with workbooks.

Thanks,

bharathi.

Hi Bharathi,

In fact it is Excel itself which is copying / duplicating the styles and this usually happens when copying information or complete worksheets between workbooks. Then Excel will often also copy the styles from the source.

There's also a Microsoft KB article (which is also linked in SAP Note 1899658) related to this problem which contains some suggestions how to solve this:

Hi Bharathi,

The link works fine from my side and as far as I know it also should be working when accessing it outside from SAP. Maybe you can access at least the related SAP KBA article 2076788 (http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2076788)? This KBA article is also referencing note 1899658.

Best regards,

Patrik

Hi Bharathi,

I tried this macro in a compeletely new workbook and from my point of view, I would agree with Michael to use it on migrated workbooks... otherwise you just lose the original style of the datasource temporarily.

When you have the checkbox activated "Apply Default Formats" the formats will be back after the next refresh ... just test it and you will see

Since you said your users complain about the load and refresh performance, you could use one of those two options "Statistics / Client Profiling" to find out what consumes most of the time:

Analysis for Office Profiling (AO statistics)
http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=430671542

Advanced Client Profiling
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-53580

Be aware that the log will be increased everytime you execute any action.

If you want to compare logs for the same repeated steps, then you need to close your workbook and re-open it. Then you can start with a clean log again.

Martin

Hi Martin,

Could you please let me know how to enable AO statistics in BW system.

Unfortunately, Wiki page given by you on the same was deleted.

We need usage details of AnEx Workbooks (Object Type = AAOE??).

I can see the Tech names of these workbooks in the table RSAOOBJ.

Please suggest how can I report the stats of these reports ?

Right now we have statistics related to BEx queries & workbooks.

Thank you,

Ram.

Hi Ramkumar,

I think this page explains it also well:

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3731474

FYI: Both "statistics" are in the front-end only, not in BW System.

Hello Bharathi - as requested before, please state which SP of 1.4 you are using; please try using the latest SP as the performance is always improved with each SP.
