BW upgrade impact on BO reports

Hi All,

We are about to have an upgrade to BW system from 7.3 to 7.4 and current BO System is on 4.1 SP2.

Will there be any impact on current BO reports/Schedules after the upgrade?

Please suggest me any prerequisites for the smooth run of Reports.

Hi Mohan,

You should create a sandbox system as a copy of Q or P, upgrade it and peform tests together with business, starting from back-end (extraction, data loads etc). After it you will know is there any impact in your case or not.

We are on BO 4.1 and NW 7.4. The BW upgrade had an effect on our dashboards.

Our dashboards make use of direct BW connections. Somehow the BW upgrade made changes to the BEx query "structures" like for example the order of the IOs changed etc. This broke the connections as the query no longer looked exactly the same. We had to recreate the connections.

The safest way is to create a copy of your prod or qa bo system.

No matter how positive, I will always test an upgrade in a sandbox environment first, you never know

We recently upgraded from 7.1 to 7.4 and we did not face any issues for our BO system on BI 4.1 SP3. We had earlier tested the impact of the upgrade on a Sandbox system and it turned out ok

Hi Mohan,

There is no impact as per product availability matrix. please check the SAP Note 1869560, In most cases SP01 + is supported with BW 7.4 SP02 and above.

Hi,

I agree with Ekaterina you will need to do a test to determine the actual impact in your environment.  But we did a similar upgrade and we use Hierarchies with formulas extensively and found some of our formulas need to be changed in our webi reports. With the crystal reports we need to re transport the MDX transports. I would recommend you patch your BOBJ environment to a Higher patch as we needed to do this too.  SP6 is currently available.
