Excel Download Background & Foreground

Hi Abapers,

I have a query reagrding Excel download. Is it possible to download an Excel from SAP GUI both ForeGround and background using GUI_DOWNLOAD? I heard that it's not possible in the background as MS tools are not available when SAP GUI is not running.

Please let me know any alternatives for my situation.

Hi Prabahar,

With GUI_DOWNLOAD function module we can not download to excel in Background mode.

You can write the data to application server when running in back groundmode.

But you can communicate with front end in Background mode also with few settings.

to application server.

( to front-end server it won't work)

Do you suggest me to down load to Desktop in foreground and to application server in background?

Any other alternatives?

Hi again,

1. Well, it all depends upon

the purpose of the program !

2. One thing u can check is

SY-BATCH (to check whether running in background)

3. Other wise U can always

FIRST download it to application server.

and then, give user the facility,

to download again from application server

to front-end server.
