SAP HANA System Migration (Only Storage Migration)

Hi SAP Experts

I have an SAP HANA (BW on HANA) system and I would like to migrate only the underlying Storage with out changing anything else. What is the best migration approach to do such kind of storage migration. I don't want to create a new SAP HANA system do an export from using Source and Target approach. What is the best way to do this kind of storage migration for Applications on SAP HANA with out any downtime if possible.

Hi Krishna,

Can you please elaborate on the your setup

Which version of HANA are you using?

What kind of Backup setup you have in place?

If there is a HA/DR setup based on SYSTEM Replication or Storage Replication?

I have not come across any document that describes the standard solution to be used for HANA Storage migration with least downtime as I believe it entirely depends on the solutions that you in place.

Most importantly Storage migration is possible with the TDI setup so you are bound to have solutions available from the storage provider and not necessarily from SAP that can be standard

Please provide more information on your setup that will be useful to make any suggestions

Sorry for the delay , it is a SAP HANA SPS10 system with 5 active nodes and 1 standby node.

No DR has been setup. Would be great if you have some ideas around it.

Hi Krishna,

If there is no HA setup in the same Datacenter we may have few options to accomplish the storage migration with least downtime

Involve the Storage vendor on this they would start the migration of the data on current storage to the new Storage disks

Most vendors offer solutions that can do this online

Make sure the data is migrated to the same disk layout as you have currently setup on your HANA system

However there will be a downtime involved to do the switchover of storage on your HANA appliance

The outage duration for the migration will depend on the time the Storage Administrator needs to un mount the existing disks and mount the new disks

Again we do not have any SAP standard document that I have come across for this
