SAP ABAP IDES 6.0 install

Hi,

I have installed SAP IDES 6.0 on server 2008 R2 and both the application and the SQL 2008 Databases were  hosted on the same server. I want to install the application server on a separate server and the SQL 2012 on its own server such that in future I will be able to add application servers. Are there any steps or someone can help how to achieve this i.e on SAP Application ABAP Install do I have to choose Distributed System or High Availability. The other thing when the application and the SQL where hosted on the same server the install created the SAP Databases on SQL.

Thanks for your help guys,

Macdonald

Hi Chinyani

1. Before stating the installation have you check the MS Sql 2012 settings as mention in the SAP Note along with PDF Chapter 4

1676665 - Setting up Microsoft SQL Server 2012

2. Both systems Windows service pack & Secure updates are same level?

3. Kindly refer the SAP KBA for the  error SQL Native Client not installed

1881155 - SQL Server 2012: Native client for MS SQL Server is not installed.

Hi SS,

Thanks for your response. I am have now decided to go with oracle database. I will be using two windows servers for my installation. Can I still use server 2012 with oracle database and application server 2008? Do they all have to be either server 2008 or server 2012 ? Can I use these two different OS or they have to be the same?

Hi Macdonald

You can use the Windows 2012 server with MS Sql 2012 DB in Windows Cluster environment. it very easy to maintenance OS / DB. Before starting the SAP installation you have to completed the Windows OS alone with latest service pack, Secure updates & MS 2012 DB installation with Failover cluster.

Kindly refer the SAP Note 2209434 - IDES ERP 6.0 incl. EHP7 (Release 2015)

Hi SS,

Thanks for prompt reply yes I do understand that. I am installing oracle DB now on windows server 2012. I will be installing SAP IDES as distributed install hence server 2012 will just be used as DB server and can I install SAP Application server on a separate windows server 2008 or the OS on the db server and application server have to match?

Regards,

SS

I have managed to work my way around the install procedure. This is what I have done selected Distributed System and installed Global Host first  on the application server which went well with no error, second I need to install Database Instance on SQL 2012 and I am getting error SQL Native Client not installed though I can see in control panel that MS SQL Server 2008 Native Client and MS SQL 2012 Native Client is installed on the SQL as well as on the application server.
