Dear All,
We need to upgrade our old SAP ERP 6 EHP6 which is on Windows 2008 R2 & MSSQL 2008 R2 SP1
Current - Windows 2008 R2 , MSQL 2008 R2 SP1 , ERP6 EHP6
Target - Windows 2012 R2 Standard, MSSQL 2012 R2, ERP6 EHP7
What will be the correct approach.
a)
1. Install New Windows 2012
2. Install MSSQL 2008R2 on Win 2012
3. Restore SQL & then SAP
4. Upgrade MSSQL 2012
5. Upgrade SAP EHP6 TO EHP7
OR
B)
1. Upgrade SAP EHP6- EHP7 on old System itself (Windows 2008 & MSSQL 2008 R2 DB)
2. install Wind 2012 on New System
3. Install MSSQL 2008 R2 on Win2012
5. Restore SAP
4. Upgrade MSSQL 2008 - 2012
.

Letz..
Hello letz,
You need to perform DB upgrade as it is mandatory Pre-requisite if you are planning to upgrade ECC 6 EHP7 NW SP08 or higher as per SAP Note 1951491.
I would suggest to follow approach First approach. Upgrade DB and then go for EHP 7 Upgrade.
PS: if you are selecting EHP7 SP8 as target stack in MOPZ then the calculated stack will be EHP7 SP8 NW10.
Means NW Stack (Netweaver components like BASIS,ABAP etc level) will be +2 than the selected Target SP Stack level.

Hi Sahil,
Thanks for the reply.
If i go according to your procedure.
1. I have to upgrade MSSQL 2008 to MSSQL 2012 on Windows 2008 itself. Will it support ?
2. Then I will upgrade SAP EHP6 - EHP7 on Windows 2008
3. Then I will install windows 2012 on new server and restore sql and sap.
Also Will Windows 2008R2 supports MSSQL 2012 R2 ?
Please correct me if iam wrong..?

Hi Letz
1. Are you going to use the New hardware for your system migration OS /DB & SAP version upgrade?
If it is yes, You can follow the steps
a) Migration the exiting system SAP ERP 6 EHP6 to Windows 2012 with MS Sql 2012.
b) After migration just wait for 2 to 4 week time, then start the upgrading to ERP 6 EHP7

SS
Hi,
Approach a) is correct if you want to go on latest SP stack on EHP7 as mssql 2008 does not support EHP7 latest SPS(it supports till SPS07 of NW 740).
You can refer PAM for exact details.
