wrong calculation of dynamic field length

In standard program when table name BSIK and field BELNR are passed then through field symbol the BELNR field length is given as 1 but in table its 10.Similarly when table MSEG and field MBLNR is passed then in same way the MBLNR field lenth is given as 10 .Can you please help me to clear my confusion on this.

    could you please clarify your issue.

    Normally all works fine with BSIK-BELNR:

    REPORT ztest_bsik.

    TABLES: bsik.

    CONSTANTS: xv_test TYPE belnr_d VALUE '1234567890'.


    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <field2> TYPE c.


    ASSIGN bsik-belnr TO <field1>.

    <field1> = xv_test.

    WRITE: /1 <field1>.


    <field2> = xv_test.

    WRITE: /1 <field2>.

    If the above code works on your system, please clarify, what kind of assign doesn't work.
