Hi,
Could any pls explain the concept and functionality of Exception Message ID in OS23 with an example.
I gone through F1 help of this field but still didn't understand the concept.
Thanks in Advance,
Dinesh Kumar V.
Hello
When there is a problem during the MRP execution, system triggers an exception message to inform the planner that something is wrong and these exceptions can be displayed on transactions MD04 or MD05.
On transaction OS23, you can select one of these exception messages to be displayed if MRP tries to explode a BOM with a specific status. This is useful to inform the planned that the BOM is still under construction, for example. Generally, statuses S1 and S2, which are related to BOMs are used.

Hello
My material status is "1" where no Exception message is been assigned. But Still i can able to see Exception message ID "10-Bring Process forward & 07- Finished Date is in the past" to that material in MD04.
Is this message is displayed bcz of Scheduling. If so what Conf. setting control this behavior or this is in-build (Programmed) in SAP.
In other-words, How to avoid this warnings via Exception message in MD04..
Dinesh.
Hi Dinesh,
These exception messages are pre defined in SAP and meant to inform MRP Controller about the event happened during MRP run. It also help controller to take action on such procurement elements.
Even if you do not assign exception message ID to BOM status, system will still release these exception messages in case there is some issue during MRP run. Either to inform user to take action or just for information purpose. Controller can later consolidate such materials together and take appropriate action.
During MRP run system carries out multiple activities in background, example net requirement planning, Lot size calculation, BOM explosion, scheduling etc...In case of unusual event for MRP relevant material, system issues a exception message at the end of MRP run. It could be related to lot size calculation or scheduling or any other process.
Lets take a case of 07 - Finished date in past, this happens when system carries out as scheduling of procurement proposal (say planned order) and finds during backword scheduling that Start date is falling in past. Now based in setting in customizing, either you can allow system to create order with past date or you can inform system to create order on today's date.
This way you can have different parameters or setting to take action on such exception messages.
Regards,
Rohit
Hello
Exception messages are very important to keep the planner informed of possible issues during the MRP run.
Exception message 10 is triggered during the rescheduling check and it means that the replenishment proposal should be rescheduled to met the requirement date. Take a look on the following WIKI, which explains the rescheduling process in more details:

Hi Dinesh,
Yes, In MD06 you can select exception messages based on message number. To do that, execute MD06 , once you have the complete list, click on search button or press (Ctrl + F). On the pop-up, go to tab "find exception". Select your exception message and press search. System will provide you the list of list of materials with exception message. refer to below screenshot:
Also you can try print transaction MDLD.
If you want to have a separate list for each exception message then you need to create custom report.
Best Regards,
Rohit
Hello,
You can use Transaction OS23 to maintain the exception message for the BOM status, when the BOM status is used in material BOMs and the exception message is displayed in the MRP list accordingly.
For example 'Inactive' to a status 'Inactive with exception message'
For more details please refer 367614 - Inactive order BOM vs material BOM
