Dear members
I am confused about the functionality of SAP S/4Hana related to BI . Does S/4 HANA has all feature / functionality which one will get in Business Objects ? . Do we still need to purchase Business Object for BI related functionality , if we install S/4 HANA ? .
Kindly guide us pl .
With Regards
B Mittal
Hi,
Analytics available with S/4HANA is called SAP S/4HANA Embedded Analytics. This is part and parcel of SAP S/4HANA system and does not require separate licenses or any separate deployment units or components to be installed. S/4HANA Embedded Analytics comes with its own tools and standard content for ex: Analytical Fiori apps, Smart Business apps, Query browser app, Query designer app etc. The foundation of all thest tools and apps are CDS views which are the core entities in S/4HANA system.
BI platform, on the other hand, is platform for strategic analytics which is more classified as source agnostic and there are variety of tools available with this platform. Many of these tools are compatible with S/4HANA CDS views (via the INA protocol) for ex: Design Studio, Analysis Office etc. However, BI platform requires additional licenses.
The standard content with these BI platform tools based on S/4HANA CDS views is available and part of SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA: http://service.sap.com/s4op
This standard content can also be downloaded from the above link and then 'Find out more' section -> More about this solution -> Download technical content for Analytics
There are plans to evolve this standard BI content across varioius key Business Processes as part of SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA.
Hope this helps.

Somesh

Hi Somesh,
How easy will it be to add your new content to the existing embedded analytics available with S4/HANA?
For example, I have a set of WebI reports and I want to add their KPIs as a part of embedded analytics. Can I do that? If yes, do we do that using opendoc statements as I have read in other blogs?
The reason I am asking this question is to understand how an organisation re-use its existing analytics content and trained resources to help increase the embedded analytics capability with S4/HANA.
Thanks
Regards
Tanisha
Hi Tanisha,
It is possible to embed BI based content to the existing S/4HANA Embedded Analytics content via the Fiori Launchpad with SSO integration between Fiori framework in S/4HANA and BI platform. This would be enrichment of the embedded analytics content with additional Fiori tiles that can be developed which can lead to BI platform content like Design Studio reports or Webi reports.
Please note this BI content and BI licenses are not part of S/4HANA license, yet integration is possible between S/4HANA and BI as I described above.
A specific guide has been provided which describes this integration between Fiori framework in S/4HANA and BI platform. It can be downloaded from the link provided above: http://service.sap.com/s4op -> Download Package.

Somesh
Hi Somesh,
One of your posts refers to embedded analytics as part of S/4HANA as part and parcel without an additional license requirement but towards the end of other post you mentioned that "BI content and BI licenses are not part of S/4HANA license, yet integration is possible between S/4HANA and BI as I described above."
For the avoidance of doubt would you be able to clarify the following questions related to licensing of embedded S/4HANA analytics:
1. Do I require a BI Suite license to use 1511 Best practices Analytical Content for S/4HANA: (BHI, BHF etc)
If I don't need an extra license then which S/4HANA named users have the rights to view this embedded content out of Professional, Functional and Productivity users?
2. Do I require a BI Suite license/BPC license to use S/4HANA planning for finance (formally IBP)?
Many thanks in advance
Andrew
The few analytics Fiori Apps you could find on S4 Hana can't compete with the tools you could find on the BI suite (webi, design studio, analysis, lumira etc.) ; either in term of user experience or simplicity of implementation.
By the way, this tools can be plugged on top of your S4/Hana thus allowing realtime reporting with all the functionalities of these different tools.

Frederic

Hi there,
Don't think S/4 HANA has all the functionality that business objects/BI.
Check if this resource helps you.

Hi B Mittal
No, it doesn't have all the functionality BI does.
S/4 HANA in combination with Business Objects / BI would be complementary.
I would advise you to read through the blog posts of Ingo Hilgefort to get an idea on combinations, what makes sense when etc. This is still valid for S/4 HANA as well ~ some advancements have been made in the meantime which now also provides SAP HANA more functionality / capabilities even then before with SP10 release for example. But general thoughts when BW makes sense are still valid.
Best regards
Tom
