RFID Tag code generation

Dear Experts,

We have suggested a EWM-Auto ID based RFID solution for warehouse automation of one of our client.

The client is saying that they are not registered EPC code regulatory (for RFID Tag code generation).

Is it possible to work with EPC codes without being registered to the relevant authority? If yes than How?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jaggi,

EPC standard contains several different coding schemes, e.g. for products, for HUs, locations etc...

The EPC Version 1.3 has for product two different coding schemes: SGTIN-96 and SGTIN-198. For the uniqueness of the coded SGTIN (=GTIN + serialized number), a unique GTIN for the product must be requested from the GS1 organization.

For HUs it's SSCC-96 schema - and the ILN of the SSCC number is also managed by GS1 organization.

EPC contains also some other standards like DOD, but that should not be relevant here.

If the customer wants to create RFID tags, that are valid thru the complete supply chain (e.g. at his customers), he needs to get these numbers (GTIN, ILN, ...) from a registration organization like GS1.

    Best regards,

      Hello Ajit,

      Thanks for the reply.

Yes the customer have both the systems. But they are not registered with the standard EPC authorities as they need the visibility of tags only in the warehouse.

If user defined EPC codes are possible and needs to be tied to the TAG EPC, do we need some development in the system do this mapping and then use this mapping whenever a tag is read. Also, would this mapping be done automatically when the tag is read ?

Moreover, the HU is  generated in EWM whereas the code is maintained in AUTO ID, how is this integrated, can you please elaborate ?
