Windows and Oracle upgrade

Der Experts,

Now we are on Windows 2003 and Oracle 10.2.0.4.

We want to upgrade to Windows 2012 and 11.2.0.4.

Here my doubt is:

1) Windows 2003 to windows 2012.. Is it possible?

A) As per some notes by using in place upgrade we can do it but it will be two step process.. Means 2003 to 2008 R2 and then 2008 R2 to 2012.

If we go with standard process as Export and Import .. Then we can do export of existing database first.. Then uninstall 2003 server and install a fresh 2012 and then import exported DB.

Here my doubt is now we are on 10.2.0.4 Oracle ... So shall we go ahead with importing of 10.2.0.4. DB in 2012 since 10G is not certified for 2012...

Do we get any problem on this??

Our plan is like install 2012 server and then importing 10G exported DB and then upgrade it to 11G

So please let me know whether this correct process or do we need to follow any other process?

Regards,

KK

Hi KK

Kindly follow the steps to upgrade the exiting SAP system to Windows 2012 with Oracle DB 11.2

1.  Could you share the SAP system version details?

2. First you have to upgrade the Oracle DB version from 10.2 to 11.2 (Based on your SAP version). Oracle 10.2 will not supported Windows 2012 server.

3. After upgrade the DB you can perform the SAP Homogeneous system copy from Windows 2003 to 2012 (Not on upgrade the OS). If possible you can create the Sandbox system with current SAP system environment perform the DB upgrade to 11.2 & OS migration to 2012.

4. Before that Kindly refer the SAP upgrade & system copy guide from below link. based on your OS / DB & SAP version

Hi KK,

The approach should be 1st DB Upgrade to get aligned with your Business Suite Support also it eliminates the OS/DB compatibility issue.

And then Perform a System copy this will be a homogeneous copy as the OS version is changed hope your not changing your hardware in the OS upgrade process.

And the approach mentioned by Sriram should work.

Also Do refer to the below document  For ore details on Windows 2012 R3 support.

Let us know if you need more inputs on same.

Hi KK.

You can follow the same steps as mentioned in my previous message.

On existing SAP system connected any other SAP modules or systems (like SAP BI,EP XI/PI ..)? if it is yes, Kindly refer the SAP Note with PDF for interoperability with NW stack.

Dear KK,

In my last project we did some thing like this

We did a system copy of the Solution Manager system and created a Fallback system in case things did not work out

Later on we performed "In Line upgrade from Windows 2008 to Windows 2012 Server". It worked well.
