CS01 Create Material BOM / Explosion type CO1 default

I am creating bills of materials using transation code CS01.
After adding materials to the BOM line by line, I am having to select Explosion Type "CO" in the MRP data box after entering every single component in order for the BOM to be used by MRP

As this is quite time consuming, is there a way to set this as default values to speed up the process?

Try to change the explosion type after the BOM creation using transaction CEWB.

I have navigated my way through CEWB, but when I go onto Materials Planning Tab & then down to Explosion type, there are pull down menus for "Collective Requirement". These appear to be locked & I am unable to change them. Any ideas, please?

I'm still relatively new to SAP, after being given a crash course.

They are locked as blank - with no text in them, I mean...
