AO 2.0, then 2.1? Is there a strategy behind this?

Hello Community,

in the recent weeks i saw many documents, slides and comments about new versions of AO like AO 2.0 and the recently released 2.1. But there seem to be also plans to release AO 2.2? (I can't remember where, but somewhere was written AO 2.2 is planned for Q4/Q1.)

What is the SAP strategy behind this?

From AO 1.4 to 2.0 it took SAP 2 years. Now we will see new releases nearly monthly.

Is this due the convergence with AO and EPM?

Will AO 2.2 contain Live Office or access to universes? (Yes, i know the roadmap)

..

As a customer this is confusing. Should we move to AO 2.0 or 2.1 or maybe wait for 2.2? Or stay with 1.4?

It would be great if someone can shed some light on this. 😉

Thanks & BR,

Michael

Hi Michael,

it was always our plan to have two releases a year - while this was successful in the 1.x code line, we started to work on the 2.0 code line quite early as we had to make the architecture ready for further "plug-ins". This was the reason we launched only a feature pack of 1.4 (with scheduling and a few other features) and we put 2.0 first as a beta release. So you might have got the impression that there wasn't happening too much for over a year, but in fact, our dev team was very busy to make 2.0 happen (and in fact, most changes were in the architecture, not in terms of features).

After the convergence with EPM Add-In in AO 2.1, we plan to converge Live Office as well - not in 2.2 yet, but probably the release after 2.2.

I would recommend moving to a 2.x release unless you have strong reasons to stay on 1.4 (e.g. being on Office 2007).
