Counter Key Figure

Hi BW Experts,

I have a key figure set up to assign a value of 1 to every record in an extract from R/3. The key figure is defined as having: Aggregation as SUMMATION, and the Exception Aggretat. as also being SUMMATION.

I find that when data comes into the cube from R/3 some of the values for this field or keyfigure (Z_COUNT) are greater than 1 (2, 3 and even 4). This should be fixed at 1 as in the Trans Rules the value has bee set as a fixed constant of 1.0?!

How can I define this key figure so it just gives me list of 1's against every record so i can sum them up in a Calculated Key Figure in a BW Query? Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am convinced the answer lies in the way I have created this key figure and its aggregate assignment?

Your advice on this problem and process is much appreciated!

If you filled your KF in transfer rules with a constant '1' and your data comes directly from infosource to cube, well, there wouldn't be any problem !

Where are you looking to see that some records have values greater than '1' ? Are you sure that there is no aggregation behaviour on what you are looking to ?

HI Roberto,

I am looking at the data by left clicking on the Info Cube and then selecting to 'manage' the data and then viewing the pulled in data within the Infocube this way. I think the aggregation is kicking in at some point as the Key Fig is defined as summation under aggregation and exception aggregation in the InfoObject creation/Maintenance section under RSA1.

I have defined a value of '1' under the Trans Rules for the constant so expect every value for the Key Fig to be 1! Previously my custom extractor & database table I am using to pull in data had a ZZCOUNT field which was assigned a fix value of 1. I pulled this data into a Count field in BW, but I began to experience this problem of great than 1 values cropping up(i.e. 2, 3, 4 and even 6- seems they are coming in when a line item under a PO has more than 1 entry on a given time)! I then reverted to the solution of defining a Key Fig with a costant value assignment of '1' under the Trans Rules. But the problem has just

been applied to this!?

Do you think the aggregation assignment of 'summation' is causing this? When I set it as 'Maximum' I can't get the cal Key Fig to total the Z_count values of '1' up as it just shows the max value of '1' on the query result!

Another person's idea would be refreshing as I am racking my brains now!!

Your help and advice would help!

Thanks!

Onestly I don't think your problem might be on aggregation behaviour of your KF: you simply choosed the default one (that is, summation!)...in other words, you ask to the OLAP processor to sum every '1' when several records are aggregated by your query...

But the root here is: are you sure that you are looking at only ONE record when you see values greater than '1' ?

Could you please choose in display EVERY char field in your manage function when you look at your cube content ?

Try to compare some single 'wrong' record from your cube with related records in PSA...

Let me know!

Bye,

Hi Roberto,

I am a bit more confident and relieved after your input- thanks.

I have assigning the default aggregate assignment as you say: Summation! The PSA to InfoCube check sounds like a good integrity check. Hopefully I can see what is causing this problem or come back with some good clues!

I will do this and get back to you with some feedback. I will assign points to you once I have done this.

Thanks for everything.

Hi Roberto,

I have yested the Calc Key Fig in my query which counts the number of records. The number of records shown in the results matches the number of those records in the PSA! So it works.

Just wanted to thank you for your input and help as it guided me well. I have assigned full points mate!

Thanks

Hi Roberto,

The Key Figure I have set up and assigned a constant value of '1' does not show up on the PSA data, its not there. Nor does the Fiscal Year Variant which has been assigned a value of 'K2'. I have concluded that the Key fig and Time Objects which have been assigned a constant value do not show on the PSA when you go to PSA and select 'Edit Data' on the relevant request.

I have notice one thing though, In the PSA for PO Number: 0016002049 there are 11 records present. Then in the Info Cube there are 9 record where 1 of the records has a counter value of 2...this totals 11.

I need the result to be 11 in my Query results?

Any ideas if the Calc Key Fig will do this?

Thanks for your help again!
