How do we load data into a Calculation View created out of a InfoCube on a daily basis?

Hi Guys,

Consider that I have a Infocube in BW 7.4 which is being loaded on a daily basis through a Process Chain which has a DTP

fetching data from a DSO..

So now, when I import my BW Info Cube as a Calculation View in HANA Studio,

how do we load data into the Calculation View on a daily basis?

Kind Regards.

Ashwin

Hi Ashwin,

A calculation view is a virtual object that has no persistency of its own. Therefore it is not possible to load data in the Calculation View.

When you execute a query on the Calculation View, the data will be fetched at runtime from the InfoCube.

Hi Middelkoop,

Thanks for your detailed answer, much appreciated.

Could you also please shed some light on how you handle year specific modelling?

We have around 4 Info cubes (year specific) based on a single DSO and we want to leverage new modeling techniques provided in BW 7.4

Current State :

  1. Multi Provider <-- Info Cube 1 <-- DSO (main source) <--Extractor

                                  Info Cube 2

                                  Info Cube 3

                                  Info Cube 4

My Options are:

  1. Multi Provider <-- Virtual Provider <-- Advanced DSO 1 <-- DSO (main source) <--Extractor

                                                              Advanced DSO 2

   2. Multi Provider <-- Virtual Provider <-- Cal View 1 <-- DSO (main source) <--Extractor

                                                             Cal View  2

                                                             Cal View 3

                                                             Cal View 4

Hi,

Do you have any year-specific requirements?

Otherwise I would recommend the following simple flow where you limit the layers of persistency to one, and still have enough possibilities to add business logic.

Open ODS view/Compositeprovider <-- ADSO <-- Extractor

Hi Middlekoop,

Thanks for your prompt response. like I have mentioned, we are currently using multiple cubes

over a single DSO and controlling the load into respective Infocubes based on DTP filters for Personal Subarea and work date fields.

with a Composite Provider could we do Open Hub Loads into third party ?

how to handle drop and reload of a ADSO ?

Kind Regards,

Hi Middlekoop,

In continuation with my earlier reply,

If we create separate cal views based on the source DSO to replace the existing cubes inorder to

reduce the data footprint in the BW system.

How do we filter the data to these cal views like the way we do now in the DTPs running up from the DSO to the InfoCubes ?

Hi,

If you create a calculation view by using DSO, you can create filters by setting values for those dimensions on which you wanted to apply filters.

Right click on that dimension, select Apply filters option.

You can also create variables to set filters at the time of run time/consuming hana views to other systems(like Business Objects)

Please refer SAP Hana Modeling Guide for more details.
