Hi Ping;

  Have a look at the PB Help file & search for the keyword "deployment". This should bring you to a section on files required to be copied to the deployed PC along with your PB application. You should see the support files broken down by feature. Have a look for the RichText area and note the extra files to be deployed.

  Your 2nd option is to use the PB Packager application, which will deploy the extra files for you when you select the RichText option.

HTH

Hello, Chris,

Thanks a lot for getting back to me.

I did use the second option to create a MSI to include all DLLs with all checkboxes checked...

BTW: you are using the initial v12 release which had a lot of bugs in it. If you can, try using v12.1 which fixed many issues.

I would suggest checking the help files "file" deployment list with what the Packager actually really deployed.

I checked file by file against the list below:

pbrtc12.dll, tp15.dll, tp15_bmp.flt, tp15_css.dll, tp15_doc.dll, tp15_gif.flt, tp15_htm.dll, tp15_ic.dll, tp15_ic.ini, tp15_jpg.flt, tp15_obj.dll, tp15_pdf.dll, tp15_png.flt, tp15_rtf.dll, tp15_tif.flt, tp15_tls.dll, tp15_wmf.flt, tp15_wnd.dll, tp4ole15.ocx

All files above are deployed.

As for the version of PB12, I saw some older posts about having the same issue with 12.5. 😞

Should I still try 12.1?

Thanks.

Hi

It might have been 2 years ago that I'd put an application with richtext dw on a computer that had at that time no

PowerBuilder installed on it; and it ran fine.

Are you sure that you don't have security problems with loading the dll's from the network?

Monitoring with processmonitor should show up if you have access denied problems or if there are dll's it is searching for and not found.

Except for the exe pbd's and database related dll's, I have following files in the directory:

Hi Ping;

FWIW: I do not think moving to PB 12.x may be the issue - but, I did encounter many issues with v12.0 that were cleaned up in 12.1. The same for v 12.5.0 vs 12.5.1/12.5.2. That statement was an FYI.

My experience on deploying the RTE DW was the same as Ben posts above. I had no issues at all as long as I deployed the files as per the MSI and or PB Help (manual copy). I did install these locally though vs loading them from a network. Ben might have a good point to check here!

Thank you, Ben.

I checked the files you listed, we have them all. Those files are deployed to the local computer.

What version of PB12.5 do you have?

Thank you, Chris. I deployed all the DLLs locally.

I will try to get the latest version of powerbuilder and see if it will resolve the issue.

One question is the computer that runs the exe has windows 12 (64 bit). Do you think there might be compatibility issues there? I tried to run the exe on this machine as in windows7 environment, still got error.

Hmmm ... do you mean Windows Server 2012?

W7 (64 bit) O/S is where my many of my users run their RTE based applications from (built with PB 12.1 and 12.5.1) - with no issues.

Yes, my program runs on a windows server 2012 machine.
