SAP Analysis for Office - Query Selection on BO Logon does not work

Former Member

Hy @all,

iam facing a problem related to Query selection in Analysis for Office 1.4

The User open AfO and go to Insert--> Select DataSource

Then he logs on to SAP Business Objects

Now the Screen with all Sources is shown.

In "ALL" I can see every connection and cube.

I created a specific connection on one single cube with 2 Querys in it.

When i now doubleclick the Cube, AfO creates a new query on its own based on some cube data.

But i expected, that i can go into the Cube with the NEXT button and then select the query.

This is not possible for me.

Even under Show connections --> Cube/InfoProvider the next button is gray

Here also my connection: It is built up wiht a specifc cube and this one has two Querys. The "Allow access from external" tick is set in Query Designer

I can only chosse the Query as Source, when i logon again to my BW System and then go over the InfoArea to the cube. There i can see the Querys.

But this is quite much logon work for a user.

I need the possibility to chosse the query in the BO Logon.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Hello Christoph,

I am using Analysis Office in combination with the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform.

In case you setup the connection on the CMC (Central Management Console) there are three options:

- you can setup a connection to the BW system without selecting a cube or query

- you can setup a connection to point to a single InfoProvider

- you can setup a connection to a single BEx query

In case you use the first option - the BW system - and logon in Analysis Office via the SBOP Server, then you see the connection and you can click NEXT and then you see the InfoAreas and Roles for that BW system.

In case you use the second option - the same workflow applies - but you only see the queries for that InfoProvider.

so it does work similar to Web Intelligence - assuming you setup the connection in that way.

Hy Ingo,

i created the connection as described in option 2. Please see the picture of my connection on top of this discussion. There i used direct the InfoProvider.

But in AfO i cannot see the query related to the cube.

I see only the InfoProvider i used and thats it.

The "Next" button is gray the whole time.

Do i have a authorization problem or something else?

Thanks for your reply!

sorry my fault - Analysis Office is behaving different on Connections pointing to cubes - then you just get the cube.

In your case there are 2 options:

- Option 1: You setup conenctions like explained in the first option and setup security on the SBOP BI Server on who is allowed to see / use which connections

- Option 2: you setup connections like explained in the first option and use naming conventions and authorization objects in BW to limit access to the overall list of InfoProviders.

Hi Christoph,

As per my understanding, we wont be able to select the cube followed by Bex query when we use the A40.Its possible only when you use the OLAP connection to create webi document.

In this case you may need to create two OLAP connection, specifying the Bex  queries. While creating the OLAP connection you need to select the BEx query, instead of cube.

Thanks,

Jino.

Hy @all,

i wanted a view like this in WEBI....

That you select a Cube and then you the querys... is there a authorization problem that this does not work, or is it simple not possible?

The alternativ would be that i create a Connection for every Query... but this seems a lot of work

Logon over BW is not an Option.. all Users have to use BO.

Thanks.

Hi,

Does your OLAP Connection in the CMC point to a query? As this works fine for us.

It works for us too;

Christoph, what does your OLAP connection look like in the CMC?  Also the "The "Allow access from external" tick is set in Query Designer" is not required for Analysis Office accessing the queries

Hy Michael,

in CMC my OLAP Connection is linked to the cube.

I have two Querys for the cube, so my intention was to select the Connection in Analysis for Office which is linked to the cube, and after click on the "Next" button i can select the query i want.

Is this possible?

Or how do you provide Querys in Business Objects?

Christoph: That's exactly the steps provided in this video (except it uses Analysis for OLAP - the concept is the same):
