Hi There,

in 'Edit Initial View', in backgound Filter pane, I can set filter for dimension, but I find for dimension in Rows Pane, there also can set filter by 'Filter members' and 'Filter by InputString'. what is filter setting in Rows Pane different from filter setting in 'Background Filter' Pane.

Background filter is for items that do not appear in your rows/columns

Let's say you want to show project, actuals, budget, balance but want to filter on date but not have that appear

You would put date in the background filter

Hello Bo Zhang,

I agree with Tammy and would like to give you an example:

Let's assume, you want to display Monthly Sales in dashboard. But you want to display 2014 year data only. In this case, you would put Year characteristics in background filter and filter it to 2014. Your rows would have Month and column would have sales facts.

Now, your output will be displaying Monthly sales for 2014 only. If you filter the month in rows, as per our scenario, it will always display only those filtered month(s).

Its up to you whether you want to show the filtered data in chart or not. If you want to, you need to place it in rows/columns otherwise just place it in background filter.

Thanks,

Anand
