Hallo Prabin

Not sure if I'm following, just worth mentioning.

If the file does not change often, you could upload it to the BI launchpad manually and use an opendoc url to the files to access them?

What reporting tool are you using ?

There is no way to add or open attachments from inside reports, unless we have different understanding of attachments.

If it is blob type how can it be in a file path ?
file path means there has to be a file at the end and you can't insert a file into report.

Hi Denis ,

Thanks for the response .

We are integrating IBM Optim archive file which contains attachments with the SAP business object BI.

The archive file contains the data archived from the database and related files from the file system. When the files are archived attachments will be stored as BLOB format in the archive file.

This archived file we are accessing in SAP business object BI tool.

The reporting tool we are using is 'SAP business object BI platform 4.1'

Please let me know, is it possible to open such kind of attachments in SAP business object BI tool. I am not sure can we use java utility to overcome this with BO.

If anybody have any idea please share with me.

Thanks in advance.

You need to be more specific on what you mean by Integration here and what exactly "This archived file we are accessing in SAP business object BI tool" means.

SAp Business Objects BI 4.1 is not a single tool, its an integrated platform with several reporting tools, such as Web Intelligence, Crystal etc...
It is used to analyze and report from various data sources.

So, are you trying to report from those IBM archive files or are you trying to make those file accessible in BI Platform as agnostic documents (so users can download them to their machines etc... ?

Hi Denis,

For more specific, we are accessing the IBM Optim Archived file(.af file) in SAP Business object BI.

End user need to access the attachment file (which exists in .af (archived file)) in SAP BO reporting tool.

I integrated the archived file with SAP BO. I can view the data (which is in archived file in report) as well. But I'm not able to download and access the data which is present in the attachments.

Let's say attachments are stored in one table.Currently I can view the data (means file name, file path and related data) which is present in that table, but how the end user will access that attached files? or how we can open the attachments in reporting tool?

Waiting for the reply. Thanks in advance.

I"m still not sure what you're doing.

Are you using Webi reports ?
Crystal reports ?
dashboards ?

How do you access this .af file ?

generally - there is no connectivity to what you said so far in the BI Platform.

To access something, this something has to be in the database of some sort, to which BI Platform has to establish a connection first, then there will be SQL to retrieve actual data from the data source (DB, Excel etc)
supported data sources are listed in PAM :

see Semantic layer part.

We can access the .af file through ODBC datasource connection.

I am using universe design tool and web intelligence tool for the report purpose.

In Universe design tool have a option for ODBC connection. Once we have done the odbc connection part then we can access the tables present in the .af file. This Universe I will access in web intelligence Rich Client tool for a report.

I can access .af file in Information design tool as well.

Using that we are generating a report.

Everything is done. But only the left part is, access of attachments in report.

Please find bellow screenshot for reference.

Please help me to find out how i can access attachments.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Here is the screenshot for Information design tool.

The above screenshot, in the result window, there is a column name 'ATT1_BLOB' . This columm actually have a attachment file. But I am not able to open that.

Hope I explained the requirement clearly. Please help me how I can access the attachments.

Thanks in advance,

Since you are opening the link from the Webi Rich Client, it is not supposed to work, because links do not work from Java Panel or Rich client. First make sure the following is working

1) Open the webi Report from BI Launchpad in DHTML mode and try opening the hyperlinked path

2) The cell has to be hyperlinked on  webi block

3) Linking to local file path documents on the LAN requires the Windows access right for the user account, under which SIA is running

Let us know the behaviour. It may ultimately lead to a Limitation issue.

ok, so you have a path to a file inside a cell in the report table and you want to be able to open that file when user click on that cell.

then it has to be hyperlinked, I don't think you'll be able to open regular path to file system....

And this should have been asked in Web Intelligence forums.
