Hello everyone,
I am trying to install PowerBuilder versions 12.5.2 & also tried 12.6 on a VM.(windows 7 -- 32 bit )
The installer starts and then installshield minimizes and just hangs there with no progress.
Has anyone encountered this issue before?
I've never had this problem before until now.
Could it be the Group Policies or some other process that is blocking this installation from moving forward?
Appreciate your inputs on this if you have encountered this before..
thank you
Melvin
Hi Melvin,
Please try the below solution.
If the installation is hanging follow the below steps.
1. open the task manager
2. Select Performance Option (4th tab)
3. Click on resource monitor
4. in resource monitor screen, you will be able to see two setup.exe
5. select both setup.exe by clicking on the check box available. This will move the given process to top.
6. right click on the setup.exe and select option "Analyze wait chain"
7. Check if "wssm.exe" dependency is there.
8. If "wssm.exe" dependence is there, select only "wssm.exe" by clicking on the check box {It might be auto checked also}.
9. Click on "end process" to end "wssm.exe" process.
10. The setup will work now by populating the next screens.
Let me know if it works... Have a good day!.
Thanks
Babin

I want to add to this solution. I don't see the "wssm.exe" as per Babin's solution, but in my case I see "splwow64.exe" and I checked it then select "End Process" of this "splwow64.exe" file then the PowewBuilder installation continue magically!!!!
BTW, I'm using Windows 10 with this solution.
Thank You!
FYI - I have discovered that the Adobe Creative Cloud app can also cause the installer to hang.
Once I quit out of Adobe, the install was able to complete.

If you have an older 12.5 version, then there is a known bug that prevents the 12.5.2 installer from completing. See Note 1873078:PowerBuilder 12.5.2 - Installing EBF results in error - setup has detected that versio...

Hi Melvin;
This has been an odd issue on some PC's from way back when W7 fist came out.
FYI: To get around this issue, many PB developers have been able to do this by booting MS-Windows into "safe" mode first and then running the PB installation successfully after that.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the suggestion. My sys admins were able to build a new VM without applying all their group policies and that helped the installation work. We also tried re-starting in safe mode - but that failed still. But I think the policies are still intact despite getting my workstation off the domain and starting in safe mode. They are trying a few other options.. Will update if I find a solution for this...
Thanks again for your inputs! Appreciate it!

I had that problem some weeks ago with the installation of PowerBuilder 12.5 and 12.6 on a Win 7 (64-bit) notebook.
Although I was the administrator of the machine, the installation did not worked. Unbelievable?!
I - as the administrator of the machine - made another user also as an administrator of that machine. He logged in and under this account the installation ran without issues!
What a nice little crazy mystic PowerBuilder Story again.
