Hi
I've tried creating an app policy for a non-free iOS App (GoodReader) on Afaria 7 SP5 that we want to use with Open In Management.
It seems, that if I want to deploy the app via MDM Protocol, i need to add redemption codes to the app policy first:
I am able to create the app policy anyway, without "Deploy using MDM protocol", and i can then install the app on an enrolled device via Afaria and the App Store.
But the app then doesn't seem to be 'managed':
Thus, E-Mail Attachments from the managed Exchange Account can not be opened with GoodReader as we are using Open In Management:
Now I have a few questions concerning this:
- Can we be sure, that the app will be 'managed' when we have purchased redemption codes and added them to the app policy
- Is this also possible with an iOS VPP App policy? What are pros and cons of creating a normal iOS App Policy versus using an iOS VPP App policy?
- When an App has already been purchased on a Device, will the MDM app deployment know this and not charge it to the VPP or will the app then be purchased twice?
Thanks for helping.
Cheers,
Tobias
Dear Tobias,
Thank you for reaching out to SAP Community Network.
1. If you could add the Redemption codes to the app policy, you should be able to "Deploy with MDM Protocol" which then the app is under "Managed" by Afaria.
2. Please take a look at this support notes on iOS VPP app policy
http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2155309
3. If you are not choosing the VPP program for the App Purchase, then VPP could again charge the app as this is a program where the apps are purchased in a bulk but not a single app. The above support notes will make you understand about the VPP process in detail.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Sushmitha
