Dear Team,

I am trying to send a direct message to one who i am following, but that user is not following me.. i understand i cannot send direct messages since that user is not following me..

But i came to know using @ option we can send direct messages, i have sent it before and it was successful, but now when i am trying to do, nothing works.

May i know anything has been changed?

Thanks

Sriram

See, the way is not called direct message. It is called @mentioned.

If you mentioned a person, then everyone can see that and you can mention a person in reply (in a thread, blogs/document's comment, status update etc.), but direct message is different, direct message can be seen only by you and the person which you are messaging.

You can't use the mention feature in direct message section. If you mention a person then a notification will be appeared in his communication tab and this will be like as below:

But direct message is different, You can only send direct message to that person who is following you and this will appear like as below:

You can mention a person by copy - paste his link from his profile.

It is still working and I can use this as

Just right click on that picture or name and click Copy link location and paste it on your reply:

But I'll say SCN system will never allow you to send a direct message to that person who is not following you.

You are mixing two different features. I am talking about reply on a discussion thread of comment on a document/blog. The @ function is used for a search facility here. That feature works if the person is following you. As I already said that, you can't send direct message to that person who is not following you (even using this facility).

The mentioned facility works in reply thread or comment document/blog.

You never could/can able to send direct message if the person is not following you. This is SCN design. The mention facility can't allow you to send direct message to any person.

Hi Sriram

i was not aware of this option that btw i like

But when i use @ in the begin i cannot select your name (for example) like the users that you can select are different/less

Last but not least, if i select myself (for example)  i receive the common message:

cannot send direct messages to users you're not connected to

You wish me to do different test?

let me know

cheers

see it works, but I had to type very slow, and I had to try it more than once till I got it to work

we dont want send direct messages, just mention a person in a discussion.

so the message as shown above is not expected.

Hi Andrea,

What i was told by our experts was, if you move the cursor on my name , you could see in the status bar as bharathprakash.gopalakrishnan,

then click on send message button you should add @ before my name and messages will be sent.. but not its not working..

Thanks

Hi Sriram

you don't know how many times i've tried to use your method

(often it would be useful to send direct messages without waiting for follow and follow back)

but as soon as i type @bha (foolowing what stated) all the names in the list disappear and typing your entire userID make the field empty as soon as i click send

thank you for the tentative

Good luck

Hi Andrea,

So what is your thoughts on this? did SCN block the alternative way of sending direct messages.

Thanks

Hi Sriram

i did a bit research and my thought is that you could have found a breach in the SCN rules (in facts SCN clearly requires the following stuff to send direct messages) but unfortunately it doesnt work

thats it
