Charm within Solman 7.1: Transport Layer

Former Member

Hello Charm experts,

I would like to know, which transport layer (SAP, own Z-transport layer) will be supported within Solution Manager 7.1 latest support package?

Are there any news regarding the Solution Manager version 7.2?

Thank you!

Hello Rishav,

there are still some questions how to proceed in case, if you have several own transport layers (not only Z<sid>, but also Z01-Z10).

Let's assume you would like to create a customizing transport for objects within transport layer Z10.

Do Charm support this issue?

Thank you!

Hi Alex

In charm, you will define the customized transport layer based on clients. It should not allow you to define diffrent transport layers for same client.

Now, If you had diffrent clients and you have multiple layers, yes still can use charm you can create multiple logical components and later on assign to charm project.

If you are still unclear about that, you can check below blog

Hello Rishav,

you can define several customized transport layer for one and the same client.

This allows you to separate the objects and to assign these objects to transport packages and to transport layers. So you have then for transport between your DEV and TST systems for one and the same client within TST several customized transport layers.

I mean exactly this situation.

How Charm deal with this situation?

Thank you!

Hi,

It depends on your system type, if you want to use ABAP systems you have to follow the standard process with SAP and Z layers and then connect the domain with solman, however if you want to integrate with java only systems then yes you will go with z layer on your cts system.

Hello,

many thanks!

We consider primarly our ABAP 3 system landscape. Besides SAP transport layer we have here several Z transport layer with custom development.

The question stll:

Does Charm within Solman 7.1 SP13 support the management of all the Z transport layer within ABAP system landscape?

Hi Alex,

Yes charm supports that however please be aware that if you have multiple consolidation layers with diffrent clients then you had to configure your logical components accordingly and include in the charm project now you can have diffrent projects for the same as it will make it easier for you defining the target component. However there will be only single delievery route to PRD.

Thanks

Hello Rishav/solman experts,

many thanks!

In case you have several transport layers for different object packages:

how is it within Charm possible to select these (e.g. ZISU, ZTST, ZHCM) if you create a new transport request?

Does Charm also support Target groups?

Thank you!

Hello Rishav/solman experts,

I found in this sap note:

"When you generate the transport tracks for your project, only consolidation routes that are assigned to the standard transport layer of the relevant development system client are taken into account. All other layers, also the transport layer "SAP" will be ignored by the transport track generation."

Unfortunately this sap note was released on 30 October 2009.

Is this the curent state (SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP13/14) that only sap transport layer will be supported within Charm?

Hi,

Please take care of the below points.

Notice that TMS will not allow you to enter two times the same development client with different transport layers

Define the client dependent tms routes only in satellite system.

Yes, Z layers are supported in CHARM.

Yes charm do support the transport groups.
