How to edit app-specific configuration and push it to device.

Hi Expert,

Under Application->App Protection , I have uploaded a managed application, with application specific configuration(key:serverURL value:http//www.developers.apple.com).This configuration has been pushed successfully along with application.

I want to  update this value i.e. from "http://developers.apple.com" to some "xyz"value. I updated the value from admin console under policy but this value is not getting reflected in application.

Please suggest the proper steps to achieve this.

Thanks

Hi Sushmitha,

I have tried the steps mentioned by you.I have the following queries corresponding to push application-specific configuration.

1.     Before device enrollment, I added an application via Application->App Protection on           "portal.sapmobilesecure.com" with   app - specific configuration.Once enrollment is done ,I           got alert to install the added application. The added application installed successfully along with

      app-specfic configuration.

But when I added one more application using same process ,I got no alert to install the      application and application is not visible in Mobile Place. Is there any other step that needs to      be performed?

2.     I also added application via Application->Manage Apps. The added application isvisible in         Mobile Place and I can install the added application on device.

But I found no option to add application specific configuration while publishing the      application.Am I missing any step?

3.     I also added the application via Admin portal. But I couldn't find way to install the application on            device.Application is also not visible in Mobile Place.

Please suggest the correct way to push application-specific configuration to the installed application.

Also, I want to know the purpose of providing three methods to upload the application(1.Application->Manage Apps 2.Application->App Protection 3.On Admin console: Policy->Add -> iOS Enterprise Application).

Thanks for your quick reply.

Regards,

Pooja

Dear Pooja,

To answer your queries,

1. The first process is correct and the app-specific configuration can be done only in Applications ->Manage Apps -> App Protection. For the second application, you might be missing some functionalities to get it deployed in the Mobile Place or to devices. Please follow this document which explains you step-wise procedure http://help.sap.com/Download/Multimedia/pdf-afaria-cloud/Mobile_Application_Protection.pdf

2. Yes, we do not have the app-specific configuration for the Applications -> Manage Applications.

3. Yes, we have the app-specific configurations in the Admin UI. Once the application is managed in Application ->Manage apps, the automated app policy will be created in the Admin UI. Now, you can provide the required configurations in the app policy and link or push this policy to the set of devices enrolled in the admin UI. All thee changes done in the Admin UI will not be updated in the Mobile Place app.

Best way to push the app-specific configuration to the list of managed/unmanaged users is by Application -> App Protection which will provide the app protection by wrapping the enterprise applications.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Sushmitha

Dear Pooja,

Thank you for reaching out to SAP Community Network.

I understand that you are trying make changes in the pushed iOS enterprise policy through Portal in the Admin console. This is to let you know that once you make changes to application policy in the Admin UI the app policy should be pushed to the devices you would like to. Unless the policy is pushed to the devices, the modified app policy will not get reflected in the applications present in the Mobile Place.

The best way to do is make the necessary changes to the configuration when creating the Application or by editing the application in MS Portal -> Application -> Manage Applications. Once the configuration is set, the modified application will be pushed to the Mobile Place and an automated policy will be generated in the Admin UI. Making changes to the application policy in the Admin UI doesn't reflect in the Mobile Place apps as there is no direct connection between Admin UI and Mobile Place.

The application policy in the Admin UI is helpful when we would like to push this app to the list of devices instead of allowing all the users to install the app on their devices.

Hope this helps. Do let us know the result once you perform the above changes.

Cheers,
Sushmitha
