Looking For ODBC Driver

Former Member

Does SAP offer a free 64 bit ODBC driver that works in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012?  One of our partners have a Sybase database they want us to connect to in order to pull data so we need a working ODBC driver for those operating systems.  If there is a free one, can you give me a link to it?

If SAP does not offer a free one, what is the cheapest way for me to get the driver I need (cheapest product)?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

If you download the "Free" SDK from SCN - you can distribute applications using the drivers/APIs in-house so long as you aren't packaging software for sale to other companies.

If you develop an ODBC application in-house and use it in-house you are okay to use it in real-time.

The "Trial" button is the only button available on the particular tool our eng folks use to put that web page together.

If you need further clarification let me know.

Cheers,

-Paul

Thank you all, you have been super helpful!  I am going to download the Free SDK and use the ODBC driver from that to pull data from our partner university.

Thanks again!

Hi David,

Please refer below SCN thread as it had been discussed before. It will very helpful to understand what are the prerequisites and license required for it. The Sybase ODBC driver comes with the SDK.

Thanks for replying Parth.  I had previously seen that I could get the ODBC driver by downloading the developer edition SDK but the license for that is pretty clear that it is only allowed for development environments (did I misread this?).  Maybe my definition of development environments was too narrow (like maybe it is any environment where there is no production ASE installed).  Do you know if I can legally use the ODBC driver from the developer SDK on a computer that is pulling data from an external Sybase ASE database for production purposes?

If this is not allowed, the rest of my question still stands (at this point I will assume that SAP does not provide a free ODBC driver for production use).

Thanks,

David

From what I am reading as long as you don't alter our stuff and sale the SDK product as our own. and it tell you to keep with the most current version of the software.

Thanks,

Hi David,

Greetings of the day..!!!

For production purposes you have to purchase licensed version of Sybase Adaptive Servere Edition to use ODBC driver.

You can get free Developer Edition only for development environment, not for production environment.

Express Edition for linux is also available free but with limited free production use.

Please find the below Product data sheet for editions. Hope it will help you.
