Dear all,

We are currently considering implement payroll in our company. We had a meeting with a consulting group and they told us we need to buy some kind of license and activate something called payroll engine in order to be able to execute our payroll in production system. The issue is, nobody in our side knows what or how to do it.

Ill be grateful if somebody here can guide me through the process to activate/buy payroll engine.

Thanks for your time.

Regards

Executing Payroll Calculation in SAP implies the execution of a Program (ex. RPCALCK0) that will call a Schema (created with Functions and Personnel Calculation Rules), but the payroll process will involve many other tasks, such as Third Party Remittances, Transfer to Fi/CO, Printing checks or executing Bank Transfer, printing reports, etc.

So there is some configuration to be made, and the scope of your project will depend on what is currently configured and activated, and what you require to add.

Thanks for the reply Remi.

As you mention it all depend of the Scope. We already define the process considering Org. Management, Personnel Administration, Benefits, Time Management and payroll. However the consultant made clear that in order to execute Payroll in Production server SAP will charge us something called "Payroll Engine". Now then, that Payroll engine activation/License buy or whatever its not the consultant responsibility and our Basis consultant should know about how to get it. The thing is, he has no idea what is the consultant talking about and for what i consider bad attitude he do not even want to investigate.

That is why I am here, not sure if its the correct forum, asking if anybody know what is that pay roll engine,

THanks, Regards

Hi Gerardo:

I think it has to deal with SAP charging fees for each payroll result produced though the system and not actually with a country-specific solution consulting issue I see implied in previous answers.

SAP engines (also known as packages) are optional applications for which additional licenses must be purchased. The metric used for licensing is unique to each engine, and based upon the objects that exist within that application.

Many engines provide counting functions used by the SAP measurement program (USMM) to determine whether an engine is being used and how, and the results are included in the License Administration Workbench (LAW) report.

See more at: Lifting the Lid on SAP Engines

You should try to contact your SAP o partner business sales representative to enquiries for details as it is my understanding price structure is SAP customer specifics.

Let us know how it goes!

Best,

Antoine

Hi,

SAP payroll covers all your payroll functionalities. If you want to fulfil anything other than what SAP covers, you may either fulfil using custom rules/functions. It depends on what country version you are using. For example, in US payroll, the tax calculation is done in third party system, while in India, it is handled in SAP payroll itself.

Are you talking about any such a third party system to do something external to payroll?

regards,

bala.

What you do is better check with customer what exactly he is intended, When it comes to SAP system it is a program where we execute and it loops to the many condition which are written in the program i.e it reads the data from master data table, configuration table accordingly it gives us the output but this all comes with SAP system when customer purchase product from manufacturer there they should have to mutually come to a conclusion mean while customer should agree for the terms and conditions as well, Check whether they are having any gaps between them and ask payroll engine he is looking for accordingly you will get an idea.

As a consultant what we can do is we can configure their product according to their regular business process with provided and existing functionalities, Where normally it is provided with product "Payroll Engine" Finally what we have to do is find out the terms and conditions between them.

Then we can come to a conclusion whether he is looking for a Thrid party payroll system or not, If not Terms and conditions(License agreement).

Payroll engine is required to execute the payroll which you should have already got along with the general license you have received. when the required support packs for your country are available then everything related to payroll will by default come.
