Description issue with the released TR

Hi Expert,

I have one issue here with TR description. I want to change the description of the TR ( Let say TR X) which is currently in quality.

Here is my SAP landscape -

Dev -> Quality -> Production

I am thinking of solution that  I will create a new TR (Let say TR Y ) in Development and release it to quality and then release it to production without releasing TR X to production.

Please let me know if there will be any issue with the sequence if TR X will be in quality and then TR Y will be moved to production.

Please also let me know if there is any better solution available and just to let you know Basis is least supportive in such scenario,

Regards,

Jatan

Hello Jatan,

It will not cause issue. i believe you wont be importing transport X into Production after Y already went into production.

The only impact would be that transport number of X will be missed in PRD system.

Hi Anand,

I will not give transport X to customer to move it production.

I hope then it will not be an issue.

Jatan,

Then it would be fine.

In-case of any possibility..its always better to remove TP X from quality queue.

Hi Anand,

Thanks for the response.

Ok I will delete it from the import queue but will it not lead to any inconsistancy?

Hi Jatan,

If you want to change the Description just double click on the description of the TR(SE09), then go to properties Tab there you can change the description.

Thanks,

Omkar.

Hi Omkar,

It is released TR. We can not change the descr. directly.

Though there is workaround that directly in the TR table E07T, descr. can be changed but I want to avoid this situation as customer is very much strict about TR movement.

Hi,

The TR description has not much of a role but to be descriptive and readable. However if you release your TR Y to PRD and leave the TR X in Quality there will be no impact in the system if you have the same object list in both the TRs and there is no other TR in between.

Transporting one TR and leaving other may result in Short Dump for syntax error, screen generation etc why not release TR X as well in PRD if the problem is only with the description.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gaurav,

In our project, we have specific format for TR description which one has to follow to move TR to Production and I missed RICEF no. in it so this TR is not eligible for the release.

Hi Jatan,

But your transport has already been released, as you say in your question that it is released and in Quality.  If the transport has been released without the RICEF no then the problem in is the process, there's no technical solution to this.

Options: Delete the current transport from the queue and create a new one from Development, or import the existing transport as it is (without the RICEF no.).

I know what I would do, but I've not defined your project transport process.

Nick

Hi Jatan,

If you want to change the TR description for the current TR which is released already, you can do the change using E07T table.

If the TR is not imported in quality, If you want to unrelease the TR, we can do the same,

If you want to validate for RICEF number the appropriate condition to be added for future TR's during releasing, we can use the relevant conditions in the appropriate EXIT/Enhancement in SE09 use doing the releasing action.

Jatan,

Create a new TR Y with right description and include TR X using INCLUDE Objects within TR Y and then release TR Y to Q.This way neither there will be a risk of missing the objects included in TR X and as well as the description of the new TR will be in compliance with the process.

For Production movement, give only TR Y to the Customer. From the Customer's perspective they are importing TR in compliance with process ( ie TR Y) even though it includes TR X as well.In the version management of Q and P it will be showing TR Y only.

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses.

What I have finally done that I have created a new transport Y and merged the released transport X into it and released it to quality.

Now I will provide TR Y to customer to move it PRD.

What are you doing with transport X?  Will that move to PRD first or will it be taken out of the queue?

Hi Jatan,

It is safe to delete all the objects in the Transport X and take out from the Queue in Quality. That wouldn't create any problems in future.

I have followed the same way earlier and it didn't create any problems.

Thanks

The discussion seems to be rambling on with no new information. The process initially proposed is sound. Modifying the text after release is a bit dodgy.
