Hi Friends

We are on SAP BW 7.4 version..

As part of enhancement we are supposed to increase the length of "Characteristic Infoobject" from 60 to higher value

1)while increasing we see Routine Conversion issue which is "ALPHA", If we remove and perform this activity then it is successful

But could any one share your experiences regarding issues that can be faced if we use this method

2)Another method is Master data deletion in ODS,Cubes,Infobject

If we perform this option could any share what can be the issues while reloading

Regards

Bose

Bose,

One thing I can think of is that the data types can possibly be different.

Create an IOBJ of length 60 and check the data type and its length in the domain. Then take an existing IOBJ and change it to greater than 60 - if the data type changes - you might have to do a drop and reload.

Also if the master data object length increases - will it impact the SIDs and Hierarchy ..? something that has to be checked.

Hi Arun

Thanks for the update

Before Implementing your suggestions, sharing further info...

in my case "Characterstic Object" is used to store COMMENT info such as

-- Customer has served the Order 2345 on 23-Jan-2015

-- the 1234 Order is served by Support team and looks good

-- Peter has installed the requested modem and you can close the order 5678

Master data is available in Cubes/DSO/....

in these situations does removing ALPHA routine is the best and simple solution....

On such type of field that contains comments ALPHA Routine has no added value (as it will add leading zeroes to pure numeric values).

On my 7.40 i have no issues creating 250 char with Alpha-Routine though, so not sure what the core issue is
