Hello Payal,

With no influence of threads available on the topic, I want to share my understanding (rather experience) about your interesting and good question.

Configuration and Customization words if you see in the context of SPRO has to be same thing. If you want to derive different meaning for these two words here too, then you can attribute/limit  the word  Configuration to certain spro activities and the other word Customization to other part pf spro activities.

Example:

If I am needed to create a custom Notification type(say AC) this has to be done through SPRO only. After creating this Notification I'd configure the same in SPRO itself to bring it to use.

Such logics everyone might not agree. But the reality is these words Customization and Configuration are nothing less than Synonyms when in practice as far as spro is concerned.

Now coming to angle of Customization word

1, Though he did not relate this word Customization to spro, the explanation he used  "your business requirement "  can not stop relating to spro as I mentioned above.

SAP itself calls the Transport requests generated through SPRO as Customizing Requests (Refer tcode SE10).  So, we can not dissociate this word from SPRO

2. Last but not the least, his definition about Customization is very important, because this word is also used in the area of ABAP solutions to Business Requirements which often involve modifying of standard programs/ screens etc. This is that Customization word we hear often in saying 'Too much customization is not good in SAP ' .(Gives trouble during EHPs implementation)

With due respects to the earlier opinions

Hi Payal,

My understanding is bit different from Pete.

Configuration - What you do in SPRO to satisfy your business requirement.

Customization - This is something which satisfy your business requirement with custom logic and custom development

I am bit surprised to see there are lot of threads available in SCN.

.

Terence
