Few queries on Afaria - Android Device communication

Hello Experts,

1) I understand in Afaria7 SP5, after the device is enrolled, when we manually try and connect the client it will hit the address specified in the device communication. Similarly, can you please confirm which address and port does it first hit when we just enter the enrollment code? OR is it seed data transaction happening at the first OR Does it contact Google to resolve the url behind the enrollment code (as we use google url shortening service) - Internet will be a must in this case for only Intranet connected devices.

2) What is the exact port used for GCM Push notification - Lock device? please confirm where should these ports be opened - at the Target device network (Wi-fi / APN network the device is using) OR at the Afaria server infrastructure OR Both sides?

3) What is the exact port used for GCM Push notification - Send message?

4) Is there any default port used for Enterprise application policy transaction at the company firewall (not from the package server)? similarly for configuration policy (esp. Samsung Safe - Location policy) delivery on Android devices?

Specific answers would be much appreciated. I need these information to troubleshoot different issues at different network layers we are facing.

Kind Regards

Sajan Mathew

Hello Sajan,

Thank you for reaching out to SAP Community Network.

Have gone through the above queries, seems like you need the port requirements list for Afaria Server, GCM Server, Package Server and Relay Server.

Please look into this Support Note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1967045 which will serve your purpose.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Sushmitha

Thanks Sushmitha,

The latest port information content you provided is definitely useful. but did not solve my purpose entirely.

Could you please try to clarify my first point in detail. I will better drill down to my issues as below:

Network summary:

We have :

1) Company APN network, which can connect to internet sites only through proxy server.

2) Company W-Fi network, which also connect to the internet only through the proxy.

3) External Wi-fi (internet).

Questions/Issues:

1) When i just enter the enrollment code in the Android client, Enrollment fails when connected to APN or Wi-fi network (without proxy) but Enrollment is successful if the proxy is configured (also for internet connected devices) - Our requirement is to make this work without using proxy. That's why i asked, whether the communication goes to Google to resolve the enrollment code or Afaria client has the capability to de-crypt the code offline?

Also to note one thing here - Once the device is enrolled successfully, I am able to manually connect the client, irrespective of which the proxy is configured or not on both APN & Wi-Fi company networks.

2) GCM push notifications (Lock and Send message) are not working for APN connected devices (with or without proxy) but it is working completely fine for devices connected on Company Wi-fi and Internet (external Wi-fi).

3) Android Enterprise application policies are working fine along with some config policies on devices connected to any network but Android config Location policy is not working on any network (this issue can be dealt later also)

Hope to get a better clarity on the first two points.

Kind Regards

Thanks Sushimitha - First two points are clear but I need to check with the ISP for APN network if they are blocking the GCM ports 5228, 5229 & 5230.

Can you look into the third point as well and we'll close this thread :: Android Config - Location policy not working on Samsung devices with 4.4 OS version on any network. This looks like Afaria issue.

Description: Afaria managed device is not complaint with the Android location policy.

I keep the setting "Enable GPS Location provider" to 'Yes' and apply policy to the device group.

Result is - No change in the device as per the policy.

Similar result for the setting "Enable GPS Location provider" to 'No'

Dear Sajan,

Make sure you use Mobile Network but not WIFI and please confirm the below points:

1. Is the device enrolled previously and you are trying to push the location policy to the device?

2. Do you get the notification to the device for the location view when you push the policy to the device?

3.Send me the server logs when you trying to reproducing the issue.

Cheers,
Sushmitha
