Difference between Launchpad Navigation and OBN

I wanted to understand the basic difference between Launchpad Navigation and Object Based Navigation, can anyone please help me in finding right documentation for this?

POWL Inbox configurations for Manager Self-Service EhP5 and aboveas per this link, we maintain entries in this table IBO_C_WF_ACC to distinguish the type navigation. But, which type of navigation happens in which scenario?
