Multiple language captions of BPC Objects

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there might have a best practice approach of how to maintain multiple languages (i.e. captions) of BPC Objects (e.g. Dimensions, Properties, etc.).

The technical problem that we're facing can be described as follows:

A model and it's dimensions / properties might have been created under the logon language English.
Therefore, the related BW objects (basis provider, multi provider, info objects, attributes) show up with their according names being defined in BPC.

Since these names are language dependent, they won't be displayed under another logon language.

And that's the issue for the business:

If someone is logged on under e.g. German, running a data manager package under EPM and filling in its prompts e.g. for data scope selections, properties being relevant for selections will show up as technical /CPMB/ strings - in the pattern /CPMB/DIMENSION__/CPMB/PROPERTY.

To make things even more challenging (not saying 'worse' 😉 ), these strings show up in fields whose width cannot be altered and/or where the cursor cannot be positioned e.g. at the end of the string. As a result, what's been displayed, might be /CPMB/DIMENSION__, hence the according property that should be used for selection cannot be identified.

Question(s):

(1) What would be the best way to maintain multiple language captions for objects? (I cannot believe that it should really narrow down to a "re-logon and do it again Sam - procedure" (at least as it refers to the maintenance of texts).

(2) And - even more important - once these multi language captions have been maintained somehow, will these /CPMB/ objects then carry both languages in their tummy when being transported through the system landscape? Or is the only language being transported the one that was used during transport collection?

(3) And last but not least:
(Does anyone have experience with the How to guide "How To... Translate BI
Objects" and how it may also apply to BPC Objects?

BTW:

We're on

EPM 10.0 SP20 Patch 1, .Net4 (Build 9042)

CPMBPC 801 0003 SAPK-80103INCPMBPC

SAP_BW 731 0009 SAPKW73109 0000

Thanks for your thoughts...

Claus

Dear Claus,

We have a similar requirement. Some developers have created the dimension in English but we would like to develop just in our local language (Portuguese). So RSA1 was displaying some models/dimensions with technical name in the description (e.g./CPMB/XZD4IWO).

To fix it, we have changed the description of models in BPC Web Admin and did a Full Optimization. To change the description of a dimension we did the same and forced the system to recreate the dimension including a dummy attribute (in the end we removed this attribute).

Best Regards,

Marco Modesto.
