Hi, I just installed SAP NetweaverSR17.4 Java system. I can see my page when I goto the url with just the host name (eg: http://hostname:50000), but when I try the FQDN (eg:(http://hostname.domain.com), it says - "This page cannot be displayed). The system was installed mentioning "Set FQDN for SAP system" during install. Could someone help me understand why this would be caused, and how to fix it? Thanks
Hello Jim,
Check if you have already maintained Host name in ETC/host on windows.
along with host name u need to provide Port number also in order to check the web url
http://hostname.domain.com:port

Tried that, which did not work.
One thing I want to tell you, and am not sure if this would be a problem.
In the installation screens, i have chosen "Set FQDN for SAP Server" and provided the domain name - domain.com.
However, I chose local users in the following screen (attached screen). The installation was done with a local user. I understand that this will create local users, and the services would be mapped to local users, which can be later changed to Domain users. Would this be an issue for accessing FQDN? I wouldn't think so, however I would like to get your thoughts.
Jim,
Lets assume your domain is XYZ and you have installed a system on host ABC with administrator id.
so if you try to login with ABC/administrator ...then this will be considered local user.
if u have created a user called ABC_ADMINISTRATOR in domain XYZ and done installation with it ...then it would be considered and domain user.
for logging into host ABC you would be using XYZ/ABC_administrator instead of ABC/Administrator.
This will not have any impact on accessing FQDN... but changing local user to domain user will be complex one.
The advantage of using domain user would have greater impact when you deal with Common transport directory for STMS.
Hi Jim,
If you ping the FQDN, do you have a response?

Jesus Rodriguez

Hi Jim,
Just double-checking, you are still using the port number 50000 when you use the FQDN, right? i.e. http://hostname.domain.com:50000
Cheers,
Matt

Thanks Matt. Yes, I am using the link with the Port (http://hostname.domain.com:50000)
I have added the entries to the hosts file. (This is a MS Windows system)
I can see the following entries in the DEFAULT profile as well (but not in the instance profiles)
SAPFQDN = domain.com
SAPLOCALHOST = hostname
SAPLOCALHOSTFULL = $(SAPLOCALHOST).$(SAPFQDN)
Please let me know if any other suggestions. Thanks
