Any chance there will be an updated Ruby GEM for Advantage coming along?

Hi,

we are still using ADS7, it works fine, but now we think it is time to upgrade to the last ADS.

The current version is ADS11, but you have announced the ADS12 for september/october 2015, do you know if you are on time?

My question is, if I buy the ADS11 now, can I upgrade to ADS12 for free if it comes in the next six or twelve months?

Cheers

Eugeni

I don't have the release date available yet, but the ADS Sales Team can tell you more about this.

Eugeni - we are currently working through the release process and need to ensure all the tasks/signoffs are completed before we are officially approved.  That said, we had targeted to have the v12 release for sometime in the last quarter of this year - and continue to work towards that.  Keep checking the SCN or ADS forum for any further news.  As for your question related to buying v11 and then being eligible for v12, you would have to be on an annual maintenance plan to get upgrades to newer versions.

Hello Mike,

thanks for this info, but what about Advantage Web Platform for Linux?

Do you have any plans regarding this one?

Thanks.

Thank you Yury for the question.

Advantage Web Platform for Linux is not planned for 11.1 SPs or 12.0, but is being considered for 12.0 SP.

11.10 SP24 has been made available on SCN. This includes support for XE8. We will also be pushing the release out to the ADS Devzone today.

Hi Mike,

I assume that the the next SP is going to appear by next Tuesday?

I've checked with Engineering - I've been told it will likely be around mid-July timeframe.

Thanks for the update Mike.

We've been holding off upgrading to XE8 because without our database support, it would have been kind of pointless 😉

Could you also ask Engineering another question?

Disclaimer- I know XE9 is on the roadmap for future.  And until it is actually released you can't provide dates.

It appears to us in the community that there seems to be a new breath of life in ADS (which is fantastic, customers are ecstatic) so I am wanting to know if HOPEFULLY there will be quicker support for XE9 when it is released?

If sp24 hits in mid-July, that's about 3 months after the release of XE8.  Embarcadero is steadily releasing every 6 months.  Now that things seem to be on track with ADS getting a new lease on life will there hopefully be more frequent updates when new software releases take place?

I'm sure others have the same question related to to Visual Studio.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris - I'll pass on your feedback to Engineering re quicker support for XE# when they came out.  You're right though - I can't provide dates.  😉

Yep, I believe the penalty for providing dates before the product you need to support is released involves a large person-sized duffle bag, a collection of wooden bats, and some angry Engineers.

Hi Chris

ADS Engineering support is committed to make support for XE9 available in a short time span after XE9 itself becomes available. We can ship new client support without waiting for the next SP. More so for Delpi and Visual Studio ADS Customers.

Ok Thanks for the info.  Really excited to see some activity.  My customers have been responding positively.

I think some are even looking to upgrade to v11 after we make the upgrade (after XE8 is supported).

Hello, Mike,

Just to be clear - the roadmap seems to indicate that the current build of ADS supports RAD Studio XE8 with its current component set. But the files available for download state that the available builds support only XE7.

Does the currently available builds of ADS "officially" support XE8 or not?

Thanks for a clarification.

Howard - the Today column indicates both SP22 (available) and SP24 (not out yet).  I've confirmed with Engineering that XE8 is not part of SP22 but will be part of SP24 targeted for release in July.  Hope that clears things up.

Thanks for the clarification, Mike. I'll second the enthusiasm I've seen from others. It's extremely good news that we can be hopeful of ADS having a new lease on life. I hope SAP realizes what a great product it really is.

Thanks for the info Mike.

I will be sending that to customers today. Hopefully now I can get a bunch of them to upgrade from 10.x to 11 now.
