SAP JAM Widget Builder Questions

Hi all!  I am dealing with a client that uses JAM, and they are looking for some good info on customization.  Any help with any of these questions would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

  • We see on page 58 of the SAP Jam Administrator Guide that Company Admins have access to a Widget Builder. Can you please describe that functionality?
  • Specifically, we'd like to create our own custom widgets that are capable of displaying multiple types of content. For example, a call-out that contains both text and images. Currently, with Group Administrator privileges, the only way we can see to do that is by using two separate widgets, which doesn't allow us to place the content to display in the manner we'd like. Is this functionality possible within the Widget Builder?
  • Is there any way we can have custom code capabilities on a group page?
  • We also see that Company Administrators have access to the External Application functionality. Can you please describe that feature? What is an External Application, and how does it display in the user interface?

The Widget Builders are detailed in the Developer documentation here: SAP Jam Developer Guide

My guess is you don't want to use the Widget builders. If you look at the documentation I just provided you will see that the Widget Builders functionality is focused on displaying Jam content inside other applications.

It should like you are more interested in doing the opposite, which is to display customer or external content in Jam. To do this you should investigate the OpenSocial documentation here: SAP Jam Developer Guide

OpenSocial is about bringing in custom content into Jam. The External Applications feature is about bringing in external data from a defined set of systems. For example you can bring in data from SharePoint, SAP Cloud for Customer, SAP CRM, SAP ECC, and a bunch of other applications. These integrations are very specific and either use protocols like CMIS and OData.

OpenSocial allows for more of a custom integration.

I hope this helps.
