umlaut problem when starting DS over eclipse

Former Member

Hi there,

got an strange issue:

When I create a new analysis, add a button to it and give the button a caption with an umlaut (for exampple "Übersicht"), the umlaut is not displayed correctly.

When I start the analysis, the browsers also doesnt display the umlaut correctly.

I've tested in IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome in different versions.

This behaviour already exist in DS 1.4, and an update to 1.5 changed nothing.

What's really strange: On my collegues PC, the umlaut is displayed correctly - so I gues it has something to do with my machine/configuration.

FYI:

I'm using DS 1.5 on Windows 7 64bit, connect to SAP BO BI Platform.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Just found out that this problem only exists when I open DesignStudio via Eclipse during SDK development.

When I start it normaly, this problem doesn't exist.

Any help on this is very welcome...

Thanks,

ben

Dear Mr. Wolf,

Please set the file.encoding to UTF-8 in SapDesignStudio.ini, as detailed in SAP Note below:

2216929 - Wrong characters at run time in initial views or query specifications on BI Platform or SAP NetWeaver

My apologises for taking this long to find the solution. I hope it helps you.

Kind Regards

Hi Ben,

I have the same when starting in development mode (from Eclipse). It seems for me that this is some setting in the RUN configuration of the design studio (from Eclipse) or even in the eclipse start config. Until now I ignore this issue, as it is not occurring in the official started environment.

good you ask, perhaps someone knows how to correct this as well.

Hi Andreas,

I have not found any solution. But as this is only when beeing in the development mode for SDK (where you start DS in eclipse) I have ignoredd this issue - it is not occuring when running "normally".

Hello,

If you write the label as Ubersicht instead of Übersicht (without the special character), it should appear correctly, isn't it?

It is probably something related to the language of your system. Can you check that and let me know?

Kind Regards

Hi Gustavo,

the issue is somewhere with misunderstanding of correct UTF8 encoding due to start as target platform. The code page is somehow wrongly set, perhaps google search on such issue will help. But this is only when developing SDK and starting as target platform.

Hi Gustavo,

thanks for your response and sorry for the late reply.

In the meantime, I've updated to DS 1.6.

I've just checked the SapDesignStudio.ini, and in 1.6, the encoding is set to UTF-8 by default.

The display of the umlauts is also correct now.

Thanks a lot for your effort!

Greets,

ben

Hello Ben,

Please clarify what you mean by "the umlaut is not displayed correctly".

If possible, please post some screenshots of the issue you are facing.

Kind Regards

Hi Gustavo,

sorry for my late reply, I've beeni n holidays until today.

In the screenshot above, you can see that the button BUTTON_1 has the caption "Übersicht". In the properties, "Übersicht" ist displayed correct - but in the preview you can see that it's not displayed correct.

I've modified the screenshot above to make this more clear:

Many thanks,

ben
