The diffrence of 'CPU idle' and 'CPU idle true'

Hi SAP Experts,

When I check the CPU performance history in ST03N/OS07N,  I am a freshman, I do not understand the meaning of the identification.

1) what 's the diffrence of 'idle' and 'idle true'?

2) Is the CPU_Utilization '100%-idle' or '100%-idle true ' or other algorithm?

Thanks

Hello Shuai Zhongwei,

the MTE class CPU_IdleTrue was introduced with this note:

994025 - Virtualized OS environments in the operating system monitor

It has something to do with the virtualized environment.

Hi Alwina,

Thanks for your reply.

I check the note 994025, and it mainly describes the profile of monitoring virtualized OS, but do not include the detailed description of MTE class (e.g. CPU_IdleTrue ) in CPH. The information of MTE class is useful for me, How can I find that?

Hello Shuai Zhongwei,

I have checked some resources, at the moment there is no proper documentation for this. I have asked our colleagues in development. We would like to ask you to create an incident on the component BC-CCM-MON-OS, so that we can provide the documentation for this MTE class. Please let me know the incident number via direct message here in SCN, I will forward then your incident to our development.

Hello Shuai Zhongwei,

first let me please answer your question: the CPU Utilization is how the processor resources are being used. This we may divide in the following parts: User utilization, System utilization, Idle time.

User utilization describes amount of work done for user processes, System for system ones. The time when CPU was not being used for 'real work' is Idle. Idle can be then splitted into "Idle true" and Wait time. In Wait time the thread which has assigned the processor just waited for I/O or synchronization. The idle true time is the time when CPU was not used.

Generally - the saposcol just provides the values available on the OS layer and offers them to applications/transactions. It does not come with 'new' metrics. But I agree that summary or some kind of overview with those metrics is missing. I started recently to write a documentation which would introduce them and explain in details.

Best Regards
