Sol Man 7.1 SR1 vs SPS

All, I have read the media guide and understand that you can use SR1 or SPS for installation. I have few questions.

1) How do I know what SP stack would be my system if I install SAP SOLMAN 7.1 SR1?

2) What are these - SPS4 and SPS13 - in the marketplace?

3) How do I use the SPS files during install? I am confused seeing the SPS files in the installation media.

Hello Jim,

Answers below to your questions -

1) How do I know what SP stack would be my system if I install SAP SOLMAN 7.1 SR1?

Ans - SR1 in case of Solution Manager 7.1 is equivalent to SPS4. So by default your base installation if SPS4.

2) What are these - SPS4 and SPS13 - in the marketplace?

These are SP stack updates for current Solution Manager installation.

SPS4 to be used in case you have a older SPS release installed on your current Solution Manager like SPS1 / SPS2 / SPS3.

SPS13 to be used to update SR1 / SPS4 to have the latest patch set installed in your system.

3) How do I use the SPS files during install? I am confused seeing the SPS files in the installation media.

You need to first use SWPM to install Solution Manager SR1 using the Installation Export DVD

Once your installation is complete, you need to use SUM to update your Solution Manager SR1 to SPS13.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Tanmeya

Jim,

If I recall correctly, SR1 includes sps4. So, I don't think you need the "SPS 04" media. You need the "SR1 Inst. Export" media and the "SPS13" media. Install SR1, and then patch it up to sps13.

Cheers,

Hi Matt, Thanks for the reply. So, in fact we have the SPS13 files in the install area? I thought the SP's can only be done via maintenance optimizer. Is there any way to have the install on SPS13? The media guide says that you can install the system using SPS media, which I don't understand.

You cannot install SolMan only with the SPS media... you need the SR1 media. I don't think you need to use MOpz to set this up for SolMan... for one thing, you can't, because you are installing SolMan, so you don't yet have MOpz, right? So, included with the media is, I believe (going from  memory here), a generic stack.xml file that you can use to apply SPS13 (via SUM) to your newly installed SolMan system. I think there's supposed to be a way to include SPS13 with the installation in SWPM, so it's a single-step process, but when I re-installed our SolMan (rather than upgrade a messy old system) on 7.1 w/ SPS10, I didn't get that to work, so I ended up installing SR1 (i.e., w/ SPS4) via SWPM, then applying SPS10 via SUM the conventional way.

Hello,

Maintenance Optimizer is not the only way to install stacks for Solution Manager 7.1.

Please check SAP Note 1577909.

The SPS install files have sar and sca files along with a generic SPS13_stack.xml (at least for SP13) you can see this if you hit the info button on the download page for the various items.
