Need for WACS when running Tomcat

I understand that for the RESTful services to work, a WACS needs to be configured to run from the CMC. However our BO installation is already configured to run under Tomcat and our infrastructure department is questioning the need to run a second application server.

Does anyone have any thoughts on running the two application servers at the same time? From other comments seen in the SCN, replacing Tomcat with WACS is really not an option.

Thanks for any ideas

Richard

Hello Richard,

This question is very good. We choose to deploy RESTful API into WACS to make them available in any kinds of deployements (event in SharePoint deployment, without Java appserver). Moreover, WACS is seen as a server managed by the Platform with SIA.

The webtier in your deployment (Tomcat in your case) is used for another purposes: hosting web applications.

So, I guess your infracstructure department should mainly take care of the webtier 'Tomcat' to give access to BI4 web applications properly. For WACS, it should just be seen like other servers running by the Platform.

Best regards,

Anthony
