Set text types as obligatory in ChaRM

Hello SolMan experts,

when using ChaRM in SAP Solution Manager, it is possible to configure specific fields in the Web UI as obligatory. For example business partners or priority.

We observe that some users do not enter any description in a request for change or change document so that the CAB and Quality Management is not really able to review those records due to missing descriptions.

My question is: Is it possible to configure Solman in a way to enforce a user to type content for specific text types in the text assignment block. For example 'reason for change', 'effect on system(s)' etc.

We are using SolMan 7.1 SPS 11

Thank you.;-)

Best regards

Stefan

    Hello Stefan,

You can perform this customization in CHARM and Incident Management.

I used the example of ZMMJ transaction - Normal Modification (copy of SMMJ)

To perform this setting, follow the steps below.

IMG -> SAP Solution Manager Capabilities >> (Optional) >> IT Service Management >> Text

Determination Procedure >> Define Text Determination Procedure

    Step1

    Step2

if you don't know the name of text.def.procedure you can check at

    IMG -> SAP Solution Manager>>Capabilities (Optional)>>Capabilities (Optional)>>Transactions>>Define Transaction Types

    Step3

P.S. For your first test, leave the field changes "empty", after that choice the best option for you.

    Result

    Thanks,

    Carlos Paiva.

    • This approach has a big disadvantage: it works only during incident/RfC creation.

There is a spro node Specify Status-Dependent Required Fields. Here you can set mandatory text types for any (not only initial) status. But as i said in the beggining of this post - it is appliable only for Incident Management.

    Hi, Stefan.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to realize this without ABAP coding. SAP SM has such an opportunity for Incident Management, but in ChaRM it doesn't work

    Hi Stefan,

It is possible to configure fields in the Web UI as obligatory. In SM_CRM, enable the "UI Configuration Mode" by navigating to Personalize->Personalize Settings->Configuration Mode.

Then go to the ChaRM screen, click on "Show Configurable Areas" and choose the area where the field is located. A screen will popup where you can display the property of the field. Hold down ALT and click the field to display the property of the field and tick on "Mandatory".

Note; You should try this in your Solman dev system and then transport to the Solman prod because the screen changes will immediately impact all users.

Re. your second question, not possible via configuration but you may be able to

add a validation by ABAP coding using BADI.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Tess
