How Roll up and Compression of Aggregates w/o Aggregates! possible :O Need your Valuable inputs.

Hi Folks,

I've observed a peculiar sight in BW system. Please see below: I would request to answer my questions too.

1. When I am trying to delete the request in manage section of IC, I see there is a tick mark for Rollup of IC/Aggre and for Compression of Aggregates for all the requests.

2. Before deleting, I will have to deactivate the aggregates on top of the IC. However, When I go to manage aggregates, it says there were no aggregates maintained.

Questions:

1. How come there is a tick mark in both rollup and compression for aggregates section when there are no aggregates maintained.

2. Is rollup defined IC and Aggregates saperately? I meant to say that,do we also have rollup concept for IC?

3. Report availability is active only when i run roll up here. Do we have to run Rollup to have report availability in IC even though aggregates are NOT maintained?

4. When we delete data request wise, will the data in compressed aggregates also get deleted?

5. How to manually run only failed data packets in DTP between DSO---IC? I've 2 red data packets out of 50 data packets. Now I would want to run only those 2 red data packets. Please let me know other option without error DTP.

Thanks,

Rohit

    1. Idealy only if you have the aggregate you will get the tick under compression of aggregate. In your case you are saying you have not maintained any aggregates. Do you have BWA setup?

    2. Roll up for IC is same is that of normal cubes , no different approach

    4. When you delete the request data from the aggregates also is deleted

    5. you do not have options to run only the failed packets. You will have to either do a selective loading based on the data in the failed packets, or keep only these 2 packets in the PSA and then run a delta

    Hi Rohit,

    1. I suspect that you are using BWA Accelerator for reporting in your system which is the reason behind compression and Roll up symbol. Rollup is used to load the recent data from your info cube to the BWA server.

    2. You can't delete the data by request if your data is compressed and if data is deleted selectively, BWA/Aggregate data is adjusted accordingly.

    3. Regarding Failed data packets you can update those data packets manually. You can find a symbol below tool bar to update those failed packets without repeating the whole load.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks,

    Vishal

      Hi Rohit,

Regarding the failed data packet, you can update the failed data packet using below 2 options:

      1. If your BW system is 3.x then, you need to go to monitor of a load and you will find 3 tabs viz. Header, Status and Details. Just go to details tab and check if the extraction is green for all the data packets( Extraction green means data is loaded till PSA successfully). Now scroll down and find the failed data package, right click on it and you will see an option of manual update. Click on manual update and the job will be scheduled which will update the failed data package to the respective target. Just make sure to refresh the monitor window and you will see all the data packages green(i.e. updated to the targets successfully).

      2. If you are using system BI 7.0. then, Go to the monitor of the DTP. You can see the option "Post Manual" just below the toolbar in the monitor screen of DTP. There is a symbol, just try to bring the cursor over it, and you will find it. Please click on "Post Manual" and all your failed data packets will be updated to the target successfully. try refreshing the monitor window after it. You can see that everything will be green.

Hope it clarifies your doubt regarding failed data packets.

      Cheers,

      Vishal

    Hi Rohit,

In addition to the Gajesh points, i think you have created BWA index on your IC, due to this you are seeing the roll up symbol. but before deleting request from IC, i would advice delete BWA index, once deletion process done create BWA index. This can be done, the time when very less number of users accessing data of IC.

    Regards,

    Vengal.

    Hi,

BWA-rollup work as normal aggregates. As a new request comes in info cube, roll up runs and new info cube data is not available for reporting untill roll up finishes successfully in BWA/aggregates and info cube. This process writes new data to BW accelerator index.
