Refresh from Prod to QA

Hi All,

I'm a non-Basis person trying to investigate ways of refreshing our QA data from Prod.

Our QA systems are too small to cope with a full extract, is there any way we can extract just a subset of data (say 6 months of transactional data + master data) or is there a known way of fitting Prod data into a smaller QA system?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Though TDMS is the solution ,

TDMS is a licensed product and it will cost much more than adding space to your QA system . Moeover  to set it up and operate it to your requirements will cost much more to your client .

Believe the only option for you is the Client copy tools ( You can exclude tables which are not relevant )  - Disadvantages may be the resulting system may not be consistent  enough when compared to production .

What is your database  (  Check whether compression can be enabled  when using the export import method . for eg : DB2  allows you to export and while import you  can choose all tables compressed )

Disadvantage  - Downtime for production during Export

you can perform a client copy in expert mode and just filter by table, maybe you just want to include some important tables,

on the other hand, you have TDMS is relatively a new tool with some interesting characteristics,

Hi Gill,

TDMS is the best option to refresh any non-prod system with reduced production data although its little time consuming

You have multiple options in TDMS like time based reduction or perform fclient copy ,data scrambling

We performed TDMS refresh for one our of our QAS system with 2 year transaction data and master data ,DB size was almost reduced by 1/3rd

you need to have one central TDMS system (which can be normal ECC system with TDMS add-on)

and TDMS add-on must also be installed on the sender(source ) and receiver (target )systems
