Dear colleagues,

We are starting an SRM project with SRM-MDM and sourcing.

I would like to know if we just need to install SAP netweaver 7.31 SP05 java ?

As the pre requisite is to have SAP netweaver installed before installing sourcing.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Many thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

Yes, you will need to install SAP Netweaver before installing the sourcing. You can refer the Master Guide for SAP Sourcing and also the Installation guide for more detailed instructions.

Hi Venkat,

Many thanks for your reply.

Sorry i might not have explained properly.

I would like to know if we need to install SAP netweaver 7.31 SP05 with pure java ?

Or do we need to install ABAP and java stack?

Adam,

For SAP Sourcing, you will just need the Java stack (ABAP stack is not used) - However you may need to consider other applications running in your landscape before you make a decision about the ABAP stack.

Many thanks Venkat.

Strangely enough the master guides for sourcing or netweaver did not specify that pre requisite.

For our landscape we have SRM MDM catalogue and sourcing.

I guess a pure java will be enough as i don't oversee so far anything related to an ABAP  stack .

We will proceed by installing SAP netweaver 7.31 sp05 with java stack.

Hi Vinta/Venkat

I think i found my answer in the master guide (i was just confused by the link response sent you earlier)

I have an other question please.

One of our colleague advised to have an oracle home shared

1778431 - SAP Installations using Shared Oracle Homes

SAP Installations using Shared Oracle Homes

SAP supports installations with a shared Oracle home for SAP standard installations. This means that two or more databases of different SAP systems can use the same shared Oracle home when they are installed on the same database server.

But in the master guide of the sourcing it clearly states that the database should be separate from netweaver.

According to the note all the db need to be installed in one dedicated server?

Can you please advise.

Adam,

It is strongly advised to install the DB needed for sourcing on an instance other than used by Netweaver.

This is simple suggested to ensure independence for the SAP Sourcing application and will not force incompatibility either when SAP Net weaver needs to be upgraded or SAP Sourcing needs to be upgraded.

It can be installed as a separate schema and share the same database with any other applications.

Many thanks for your 5 stars support.

As per your advise and SAP guide its better to have a dedicated database.

At least for production/training  we will .

For dev and quality (to minimize the cost and space) i would like your advise if we use the oracle shared home .

It looks like we will have 1 database with several schemas related to different systems?

So we will still be on the non SAP recommendation?

SOURCING,SAP NETWEAVER 7.31, SRM-MDM,SRM.

I have an other question please.

Its regarding the catalog , we would like to install SRM-MDM 7.02

I have read SAP note 1585332

It says:

It is not recommended to run SRM-MDM Catalog and MDM Scenarios on the

same machine.

So im confused does that mean that we need 1 server for SRM-MDM?

In the note it says SRM-MDM contains MDM server

SO i m confused.

Can you please advise.

Hi Prasad,

Thanks a ton for your support and answers.

One more query, is it possible to replicate the Master agreement hierarchy to SRM with the parent child relationship .

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Venkat

Hope you are well.

We have successfully installed netweaver 7.31 SP16 and sourcing 10

The next step now is to install SRM-MDM 7.02 .

We would like your expertise please on that.

Do we need to install MDM 7.1 server prior to SRM-MDM catalog ?

The business requires the catalog from SRM-MDM only.

We understand MDM 7.1 contains lots of things that the customer doesn't usually all need.

The SAP note 1585352 is saying that :

"You need to install the following components which are included in the SRM-MDM catalog 7.01 delivery"

Does that mean if we install SRM-MDM 7.02 the server will be installed too?

In that case we wont need to worry about MDM .71.

Could you please advise.

Thanks

Hi Prasad,

Another question regarding Sourcing. I am working with Adam.

The installation sequence is from Master guide:

  • Modify database management system

(DBMS) and create database user

(schema) per SAP specifications

  • Install supported application server
  • Install SAP Sourcing
  • Configure SAP Sourcing

From Installation guide in 2. Preparation there is some preparation steps for the database:

2.4 Prepare Database Server

Could you please advise if these steps are for the NW 731 AS Java installed previously or if it is for the Oracle database instance for Sourcing?

It is confusing as the preparations steps for the database are before the Sourcing installation is started

Adel,

The steps in section 2.4 are specific to the Sourcing Database. Please don't make any changes to the Netweaver installation.

The Installation steps until 2.4 has installed the necessary software.. the next steps after 2.4 take on the task of creating all the essential tables and data needed for the SAP sourcing application.

All steps from 2.1 and 2.2 seems to be on NW installation. Am i correct?

In 2.3 we just have copied the media.

I want to follow your advises but I dont get how we can "create an application database schema, Create Tablespace, Install Oracle Text Search, etc when Oracle Sourcing is not yet installed.

Did I miss something in previous step?

Could you please advise?

Adel,

Section 2.0 is just preparation .. you have not installed anything yet , you are preparing for an installation

Section 3.0 is installation - all steps in 2.0 are pre-requisites...

ex: section 2.4.2 - create Tablespace - if you have the Oracle server for SAP sourcing please login to that instance and create a tablespace (atleast 1).

Does this help ?

I would lie if I say yes

I am still blocked at same point. I am with you that section 2 is preparation and Section is installation.

Where I am lost is how can we perform 2.4.2 without Oracle Server for SAP Sourcing being installed.

I feel I have miss a step.

Or is it like AS Java ABAP installation? if we start Sourcing Installation we will be prompt to Install Oracle, once Oracle is installed we can perform 2.4.2?

Adel

Adel, In this case you have to install Oracle first. (this is specific to Sourcing) - please do this with Oracle instructions and then jump back to step 2.x....and follow SAP Sourcing Instructions to setup the Schema for Oracle ...

Many thanks for your help.

Now everything is clear. Documentation should be clarified as Database for sourcing was not installed yet and the one for Java was, it s confusing.

Hi Venkat

Hope you are well.

Many thanks for your five star support.

We have made a good progress.

I would like to ask you about the support package requirement that SAP has put in the master document for sourcing .

"SAP Sourcing 10.0 must be installed on SAP Netweaver 7.31 SP05"

Is it the minimum requirement or do we need to stick to that level?

The reason im asking is that the latest is SP16 which is far from sp05.

Can you please advise .

Many thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

NW 7.31 SP05 is the minimum requirement. You can use any SP that is greater then SP05.
